Actually, after the initial "This is NOT how to launch a game" posts (maybe about 3 or 4), we just spiraled down into self-parody and juvenile picture posting in an attempt to one-up eachother in giggle-fest madness. I think after the first page of the thread, the original purpose of the thread (a potential ill-done game? launch) had de-evolved into just fun & games (and thus at that point the thread name could have been changed to the Vulva Puppet Fest). The last few pages didn't even refer to the poor launch attempt at all.
Sometimes people just get into tea-snorting-through-nose moods and all heck breaks loose. Have fun with it or just ignore the thread.

I don't, however, feel its fair to bash a GAIM, or a cliched trailhead post to Unfiction (within the board rules!!), inside the launch thread just because you feel like being the ARG Gestapo.

Yes, technically it's within the board rules that you can post a link to your trailhead - but I swear it seems that everyone just stops reading the thread once they get that tiny bit of info out of it.

If a potential PM actual reads the entire post, you'll see it gives this advice at the end.

But let me encourage you to try to find some other way to launch your game. If you really can't think of any way besides dropping a blatant link or clue on the forums, feel free to contact one of the forum admins (currently: SpaceBass, vpisteve, jamesi, Gupfee, Bill, and ScarpeGrosse) by email or PM, give us your trailhead info, and have us post it for you. We'll be completely discreet and post it as an anonymous tip for you, then use the Force to erase our memories of the entire event. Unless, of course, you post to that thread we started for you.

That last paragraph tells anyone who cares to read it that posting your own trailhead should be a last resort. There are so many resources out there for amateur PMs to use, it pains me when they seem to snub them because they seem to think they can do it all on their own. Very, very, very few ppl can run a whole game by themselves - and if your idea of a great launch is posting in character to this board (IMHO) you don't have what it takes to run it solo.

I do agree that the launch (and the immediate information you get from the launch) should be as interesting as you can make it. The bigger initial base you have interested in your game means the more word of mouth and the more players you will have actually taking an interest. If your initial rabbithole is low-key, make up for it by making it as deep as you can. If you can't make it deep, then it had better be eye-catching/original. If people can't distinguish your launch from any of the other dozens that have happened in the past year, establishing any type of sustainable player base will be an uphill battle.
