Whoah, easy up there. I know we're all flushed with success after the decompilation of the maze code, but FTPing into something when we've not been given any hint that we should is definitely brute force. Not just my opinion either - this came up back in the pre-game too.

I don't see it as brute force. I wasn't randomly trying multiple passwords and logins. Actually, I wasn't trying any passwords or logins as you can't connect to the site at all.

I thought the ban against brute forcing was to prevent throusands of hits, which is essentially a DoS attack. I was attempting to connect and login using a know username/password combination. I posted the fact that you can't connect so that others would not try the same thing.

OK. We discussed this a long time ago, but I think it's time to finally pin it down. You said you have some evidence that directly shows that you took money to steal the Cube?

It's not as simple as that. They hid their trail well.

But nothing that specifies a name or an account number?

No. It was a "gift" via a one-time key. Someone bought a cheap key from a big store and transferred Lecks to it. As if they were going out clubbing for the night, you know, they way young people do when they don't want to risk damaging their expensive stylish key. That money came to me and, if they're sensible, they'll have physically destroyed the intermediary key and added a whole bunch of obfuscatory routing and encryption to stop people to following the trail. It was probably more complicated than that, but that's the gist of it. Anyway. No. No evidence apart from a large transfer.

Hmmm... frantically trying URLs with "comprendo" in them (including variations on comprendo.ascendancypoint.com and ascendancypoint.com/comprendo), but not coming up with anything. I'm wondering if this is maybe a separate "hosting company" or somesuch (i.e. an entirely separate domain).

Are we sure the Advisor lives at Ascendancy Point?* Maybe he means another building...not even one he lives in, perhaps one he owns?

*Only asking because I looked and couldn't find anything mentioning his residence, but I am new to this, so maybe I missed something that everyone else already knows...heh.

Eh? Sorry I don't understand that at all. Presumably (and checking through the IRC log) the password has something to do with Vincent, but no one has said what password and username was used to get these files. Tried a couple of things and couldn't get to it myself. Would be nice if people included a little more info in the rush to be first to post.

EDIT: doh, other people got there first, sorry. seems to be case sensitive btw.

rach =)

p.s. wiki will need updating too

I've had an idea; why don't we meet in my building on Solstice Day? There's going to be a huge celebrity wedding here, so the place will be crawling with people. Even more so than usual. We might go unseen.

this was joya's wedding and http://www.perplexcitysentinel.com/archives/2005/06/joya_skips_out.html
shows the wedding was in ascendancy point Smile [/url]

It so *is* 'The Usual Suspects'!

But, while we're on this, for all those who keep an eye out for how the keys operate - sounds like they're working in this regard just like we'd expect personal encryption keys to, wouldn't you say?

P.S. to the last notice - I figure Bri is right on this one - 'Comprendo' sounds like it's the overall 'hosting company', rather a specific site. Moreover, the suggestion is that it's the Network for the building - so is that our 'central system' right there?

Clue is: Where S and I met
(They met at a picnic, but I can't get in. I don't know whether the username is wrong, or whether I should be writing "atapicnic" or what...)

The picture on the page with the eulogy is of a rather young Pietro and Sylvia. It's titled tshirt.jpg, and of course, they're both wearing t-shirts. Pietro's says "I solved the mimasan maze", and Sylvia's has some strange fishbowl symbol on it. They haven't been married that long, so any picture of them might be a clue. Could be where they first met? (Unfortunately, I've tried a few variations on it and it doesn't seem to work. Anyone know where the Mimasan Maze is? Smile

It's not on the map we have assembled so far, is mentioned briefly in the 24 hours in Perplex City leaflet as being in the north...which is useful!
