[PUZZLE] Rambaldi Manuscript Forgery

I AM AN IDIOT. I apologize. Seriously, read on and you'll see why:

I took a second look at the newspaper I got from the clown yesterday, just now. I noticed it was from July 4th.

"Ha!" I thought, "They are poking me because I was not able to be there the previous weekend. 'Get a new newspaper for that dumb girl? Heck no, we're not spending another 25 cents on her!' Well, I am waiting for my tilapia filet to thaw, so I will just flip through the pages ..."

DUDES. There is a classified ad circled in red, on page 62 of the July 4th Chicago Sun-Times:
Quote:
Replica of manuscript page
ca. 1943. Original believed
by Milo Rambaldi. $50.00
Merritt Parker 347-410-9047

I called the number. There is a voicemail indicating that there is massive interest in the Rambaldi replica, and so Mr. Parker is putting the piece up for auction on eBay.

eBay auction listing

Ooo, it looks puzzly, don't it? Yay! Sorry for not catching this yesterday! Sorry, clown! Sorry, Meier!

Did you see the significance of the date of the paper? July Fourth = 7 / 4 = Inverted 47

Very Happy

Holy cow! That's awesome! Am I the only one kind of tempted to make a bid on this...?

Anyhow, it looks like a sketch of what would be a perpetual motion machine. I don't know if that has any meaning to it, though.

You guys think it would be possible to get a better scan from this guy? Specifically of that glyph area?

[EDIT]: Here's a picture I found via Google of another perpetual motion machine, but this one runs on water.

There's a 47 in the telephone #, too.

Alright, well I've had some conversation going between me and the seller on ebay. Here's what I sent him first:

Quote:
While going through my stack of old newspapers, I found your ad about this item. I would love to add this to my collection, but as it is only a reproduction, I don't believe it is worth $50. If you don't get any buyers, would you be willing to renegotiate the price? Please let me know. Thank you.

His response to me:

Quote:
This is a faithful reproduction of a document that no longer exists. Its rarity ensures its value. A collector should be aware of such things, hm? Can you give me an idea of your familiarity with this artist?

My reply back:

Quote:
Ahh, my apologies. I was rather taken by this find, and misread part of your posting of the document. In my excitement, I didn't realize exactly what it. I am familiar with this artist, and I'm always eager to find out more. I believe he was misunderstood by many, above all Archdeacon Vespertini (found during a quick read-up on Rambaldi). I just might have to bid on this before it slips through my grasp!

As I posted on the SD-1 boards, I'd be willing to bid on this item. If anyone has an issue with this, let me know, but I think it would be silly for us to all get in a bidding war over it.

[EDIT]: I forgot to mention that I made that first post because when I first read the auction, I thought it said it had 7 hours left, not 7 days, so I wanted to make a move before it was too late. Now, I might let it ride for a day or two to see how things go (see if something new pops up), THEN make a bid.

Has anyone contacted Omnifam, see if you would get reimbursed for the buying of the sketch, as would happen through most agencies or companies. Very Happy

Using Xsteg, it says there is something hidden in the picture.
Haven't found the password yet though.
Might try the seller, see if he will tell me Very Happy

I'll e-mail Omnifam to see what they think about this... I haven't yet, but that's a good idea!

Sent an Email to Merrit Parker tonight.

Dear Merrit Parker. I am an avid collector and Follower of Rambaldi works. I would be quite interested in receiving more information on this most exquisite forgery. If I might ask where you aquired this item, who the previous owner and/or forger was, Is there anything printed on the back. Might I also get a higher quality scan of the image. Would you be willing to send the item to Japan, or would I be required to have an associate retrieve it for me in the States. Please get in touch with me as soon as you can.
As always,
Karl Jorgenson
<O>

Hopefully this will facilitate some movement in some direction or other.

On a side note, a reverse number lookup on 347-410-9047 didn't turn up anything. Just that it's a New York number.

Figured I'd make a new post so it would show as a new post.

Okay so who's familiar with the drawings of Rambaldi? How about this one:

(Found here: http://www.dayfornight.com/dev/abc/followersoframbaldi/)

Notice those characters around that octogonal bit towards the bottom right? Check them out clockwise, starting at the top. I see a familiar pattern there, eh? The same characters (and I think a few more) appear in other drawings of his. Not sure what the machine in the pictures would be for, though.

Since I know you havent watched the show, Yet Shocked !

I'll give you a small rundown on the rambaldi machines. Rambaldi has hundreds of them. or more literally 47 but anyway, they all have different things they do, such as one was a weapon that boiled all moisture out of human bodies and basically incinerated people within a 12 block radius. another machine told of a passenger who would scribe out Rambaldi's greatest invention. Another was a machine that turned people into raving psychotics that basically acted as zombies. I don't think we will know what this machine or others may be until they let us know.

I expect the bidding will far exceed the original price. The only information I have about this document has been given out

not very helpful, is he?

edit: has anyone got a response from Omnifam. Maybe they have a title for the page, or something similar. I still think there is something hidden in the picture on ebay. i found something at sensitivity 5.0. i just can't get the passcode!!!
Infuriating!!!

Also, i have taken a long shot, and contacted Mr Meier in case he can give us more info

Oh hell, maybe I'll just throw a bid down on it tonight. Just for kicks. Razz

I haven't heard anything from Omnifam in a decent length of time. I've sent them a few e-mails, with questions, comments, etc, and nothing back yet. I think we must have what we need to know to figure some of this stuff out, but we just need to figure out which piece goes where.

Ursos -

Set up a paypal account and solicit donations from the rest of us players. There are enough of us here that ought to be willing to pitch in $5 or $10 (I'm good for at least $10) towards the bid.

As long as you let us know as soon as you hit, say, $60 (to give you some lee-way for extra bidding if need be) - and refund everything over the amount you need back to the donors it should be fine.

We know you're good for getting us all the information, and getting a decent scan of the document online.

It's time for more teamwork, folks - get out your wallets!
