SPEC: Mute smileys

http://www.thoughtscapes.com/mute/

I *think* there are twenty-five different symbols, which indicates a substitution cipher. Does it read across or down, I wonder? Is there anyone here who can write a code or whatnot to convert each different symbol into a different letter of the alphabet? - it would make a cipher much easier to solve.

mute smileys

I think there is a Bacon cipher in the source of the page - I am in the process of extracting the values and decoding it.

Keep working on the visual aspect. Will post text when decoding complete

key meta tag

There is a meta tag named "key" in the source of this page.

<meta name="key"
content="dHVybiBvZmYgZXh0cmFuZW91cyBoZWFkZXJzIGFuZCBhZ
Gp1c3QgbWFyZ2lucyBmb3Igb3B0aW1hbCBvdXRwdXQ=">

The content is encoded in base64 and translates to: "turn off extraneous headers and adjust margins for optimal output"

Perhaps we need to print it?

Sounds like it.

"Extraneous headers" hmmm ?

I'm not going to have enough time to follow up on this decoding right now... Friday afternoon here in Oz and the boss is floating around.

I'll keep working on it.. but someone else might be quicker.

Some of the characters I'm getting from the Bacon idea seem to be not quite right, but others look great - perhaps the fractions are needed to complete this decoding too

Hmmm, check it out in print preview in IE or print it out yourself. No smileys. Weird vertical light and dark dot sequences with fractions under and in them. Very odd.
