sweet I have some credit stored up at the local game store so maybe I'll try it out. I'll let you know if I do and what I think about it.

That whole "requires a Windows PC" thing is rather unfortunate.

Yeah, I agree. I haven't seen Missing yet, so I'm not sure what they might be doing that would require tight coupling to the native platform.
I never did understand why they did that in Majestic. There wasn't much to the Alliance application, and the media was just standard stuff (Realmedia). It seems to me that it could have been written in Java (which I believe was what they ran on the server side), and it would have enlarged their potential audience. I mean, RealPlayer, Flash, and AIM clients exist everywhere.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
I own it - it's trash. It's garbage. It sucks, the puzzles suck, it's probably one of the worst games I've ever bought.
By the way, it shouldn't require a Windows PC. The European version, In Memoriam, came with a Mac CD.

I agree with Mos' statement regarding PC/Mac compatibility. The European version I played did have both a PC cd-rom as well as an Apple cd-rom. I'm not sure whether the US release will contain both however. The suits at TAC have made some boneheaded decisions before with games they've brought over to the US market.
I disagree that the game is garbage. I'd rate it as slightly above average. But it's all in what you are expecting Missing to be. I knew the game contained a lot of arcadey type challenges, and with the exception of a few of them, I had a decent amount of fun.

I feel I do need to point out that we need to consider what Mos' idea of fun is.

I disagree with your disagreeing with my belief that the game is garbage. It seems to me that the game's puzzles fall into a few different categories:
1. Google puzzles. You google for a website, probably end up finding a walkthrough instead. These are always very distinctly marked, even though they should be obvious anyway. They're also incredibly easy, because convienantly everyone has all the answers on their front page.
2. Arcade games. Most of these are incredibly frustrating and dumb.
3. Trial-and-error puzzles. Useless.
There is also one nasty pixel hunting puzzle.
There are no "real" puzzles that require thought. It's all fill-in-the-blank google crap, or arcade games, or whatever. Once again, I highly recommend you avoid this game at all costs.

Besides the puzzles, how was the rest of the game? Plot? Characters? Etc...

Sorry for the double post...
I'd have to agree with much of what Mos said in the above post.
1. The google puzzles and the websites you found were way too easy. I guess for non-ARG players this wouldn't be so bad though. I could see someone like my mom really getting into it. Supposedly there were tons and tons of websites, but many you didn't have to go to in order to advance in the game. It was like you could dig as deep as you felt the need to kind of things. Finding the guides when you google searched didn't really bother me much.
2. The arcade games were mostly irritating. The whole concept of the arcade games didn't really fit with the game anyway. You're supposed to be investigating the disappearance of two people and you're sitting there playing a PacMan rip-off. I would have liked some more difficult google puzzles that required a little more puzzle-solving and research.
3. The Trial-and-error puzzles were even more irritating than the arcade games. There were alot of pixel-hunting levels that took entirely too long to get past.
The videos were quite interesting and the plot was as well. I just wish there had been more real investigation involved in solving the mystery. I played the game all the way to the end because I genuinely wanted to know what happened. Unfortunately I had to go through alot of painful gameplay to get to the end.
I bought the game for 14.99, played it and sold it on ebay for 12.99. It was worth the $2. It probably would have been worth it even if I hadn't sold it on ebay just to see what the computer game makers were trying to do. I'm sure this was a much better received game by those who haven't played ARG's before. It was nice to see someone take another shot at something sorta Majestic-like, although I think they could have made the game 50% better if they had dropped into #unfiction one night and asked for some advice
