I'm nothing if not cheap.

Er...

Oh, never mind.

Only if it looks stupid in context.

Which... hmm, maybe this does, I don't know. Depends how big the vampire killing organisation is supposed to be. I'm quite interested in where this one's going, though. I like the initial concept about it.

Email back from that address, anyway. Stated 'The website will be updated soon.'

Which is perhaps the most disappointing ARG response I've ever had.

The site as been updated. There is a history thing in there. Ther was also this quote:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Chapter 1 sets the rules.
Chapter 2 bends the rules.
But in the finale...
Forget the rules.
The question is, what chapter are you in?

I don't understand it, whats it supposed to mean.

Lol, that's a quote from the Scream series of movies. Whether that is a clue, or whether it's some meaningless blather is yet to be discovered.

I just started to look at this today, but whenever I visit the first website listed the counter at the bottom is all zeros. Did it count down from something or has it always been that way? If it has always been that way why have a counter that does not count?

It's always been like that. I wondered about that too.

Obviously didn't lead anywhere, but I tried anagraming 'Salomslot' (since it's written as one word and spelled incorrectly, I thought it may be something like that). It didn't unveil anything particularly interesting, but an anagram of 'salomslot' did turn out to be 'salts loom' - an image I found quite amusing.

Going to re-read the site now and search for any clues.

Sometimes it's an inside joke...see here (bottom of page) :

http://www.argn.com/archives/lockjaw/wiredsouls/

45912 was a number that popped up over and over during this particular game, and it just felt...right somehow to put it there.

Yeah but the inside joke one is a .gif. This one's a genuine hit counter.

Clearly OOG, but a bit of back information about the setting might be found here: http://www.holoweb.com/barnhollow/cartercaves.htm

Yeah, I made it myself Wink

I'm guessing a glitch in the code. There's nothing about counter problems on the main FreeWeb site.

Edited to add: I'm leaning towards not-a-puzzle just because there's no context for it to make sense as a puzzle--yet. But a crafty PM would find a way to reverse-engineer this into something that made plot sense (PMs are sneaky like that)

Sent a new email to salomslot. Gave him the information he wanted on Carter Caves, and asked what we should do now.

I'm liking the concept behind this one, but it seems to have been a premature launch? There is literally nothing to do. It almost seems to be pre-launch?

It seems that, as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle quite aptly put it, "The game is afoot."

I want to play this game but I reckon I'll have a hard time with it as I studied Vampire history for a while, both popular fiction and the facts and this game doesn't seem to run with either of them. Laughing Oh well, perhaps there is more than one Dracula in the world. Bah, whatever.

Does anyone have any suspicions as to what the urban legends are pointing to?

By the way, these are the stories he's talking about.

The Hook:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
This young couple is out parked on a country road. The girl is real nervous and uneasy. It seems that there had been a report about an escaped criminal in the area. He was supposed to be dangerous, a mad killer. They called him "The Hook" because one of his hands was missing and he wore a hook in place of it. He was supposed to have used it on all of his victims. Anyway, the girl was real uneasy for some reason. Supposedly, they were not aware of the escaped killer. She kept saying she had an uneasy feeling but she did not know why. The guy finally got mad at her. He thought she was just making up excuses because she didn't want to park. Finally he lost his temper and stepped on the gas. He really tore out of there fast. He didn't say a word on the way home. When they get to the girl's house, he just got out and went around to open her door. When he got to the door, there was a hook hanging on the handle.

The Boyfriends Death:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
A teenager is driving his girlfriend home from a date. The boy had been playing around earlier about the car running out of gas as a means to make out with her. Well, it doesn't work and she's mad. He starts up the car to take her home, apologizing all the way, when lo and behold they actually do run out of gas. He pulls the car over by some trees. It's very late and the area is secluded and wooded. The boy tells his girlfriend that he saw a gas station a couple of miles back and since going ahead would take even longer, he tells her to stay in the car with the windows rolled up and locked and he'll get back as fast as he can, no sense in both of them going, right?

Well, the girl waits in the car. It's been about 20 minutes when she hears a faint scratching noise. It starts to bother her, but she blows it off as the tree branches hitting the car, it had been windy that day, She decides to turn on the radio to listen to some music so it won't freak her out. Well, now it's been almost 2 hours and she's starting to get worried. Her boyfriend was a jock and could have easily made it there and back in under an hour. A half hour later she's very worried and decides to turn off the radio and look around. He had told her not to get out under any circumstances so she tries to peer out the window, she sees nothing. To her annoyment the scratching sound is still there. She decides that she will get out just long enough to break off that damn branch. She gets out and notices the gas can on the ground near the door. She immediately turns around and sees her boyfriend hanging upside down from the tree, throat slit, and his fingernails dragging across the top of the car making a scratching sound. Of course, had she been listening to talk radio instead of music, she would have known a maniac had escaped from the asylum near the woods where they were parked.

I'll edit this again if i can find a connection...
