SteveC says:
Any news on the police investigation?

SteveC says:
Or are you still in that loop?

Amanda says:
they're "investigating some leads"

Amanda says:
that's all i know really

Amanda says:
but they say they're not very strong ones

SteveC says:
One lead we're aware of is that you were probably kept in a manor in Canterbury.

Amanda says:
right...

Amanda says:
farbank, yes?

SteveC says:
Yes....

SteveC says:
The van was seen outside it by a local.

SteveC says:
Quite a few people are coming out of the woodwork, but The Balance are doing well to keep themselves hidden even with so many around.

SteveC says:
I wonder if you have any idea why you may have been kidnapped? Did you talk to the guy who was in the same room as you at all?

Amanda says:
oh, we know exactly why

Amanda says:
the 7 sins

Amanda says:
Apparrently I conform to the 'gluttony' one

Amanda says:
*shrugs*

SteveC says:
oh, we speculated on that, but drinking and smoking (your declared vices) hardly count. They'd be busily collecting half of England's major cities every friday night if they obsessed about that?

Amanda says:
They chose one person for every sin

Amanda says:
They said it was part of a big campaign

SteveC says:
Any idea what Kyle's vice was? Lust?

Amanda says:
to show people how to live their life

Amanda says:
lust yeah.

SteveC says:
You should probably take that as a compliment.

Amanda says:
heh.

Amanda says:
I hope he's ok...

SteveC says:
There are some parts of The Balance that don't like how it's being run, especially this kidnapping. They are trying to help us from the inside.

Amanda says:
Really?

Amanda says:
Who?

SteveC says:
We've had a few clues leading to people, but they either don't know why they are being mentioned or are less than forthcoming.

SteveC says:
Ben Abhu, a petty criminal that crossed them in 2004. Graeme Wilson who runs a site and noticed the red van in Canterbury.

SteveC says:
Ian Denby...

SteveC says:
Any names that ring any bells?

Amanda says:
the name Ben Abhu rings a bell

Amanda says:
I think someone mentioned him while we were in there

Amanda says:
neither of the others though

SteveC says:
How many members of the balance did you come into contact with? Did you see/hear #2? He's new apparently.

Amanda says:
#2... no but #14, the guy that was watching us after 'the carer' left, was on the phone to him

SteveC says:
What were they talking about? #14 is suspicious that there's something going wrong with their own organisation, or at least with their plans.

Amanda says:
he is?

Amanda says:
in what way?

SteveC says:
All I can say is that he's communicated the following message to other members: "There's something bad going down. I'll tell you more when I work out what's going on." That was 4 days ago and no other mention since.

Amanda says:
hmm, weird...

Amanda says:

SteveC says:
What was he talking about to #2, or anyone else for that matter?

Amanda says:
that's when i escaped.

Amanda says:
Erm, reporting in to #2

Amanda says:
I got the impression #2 is coordinating the whole thing

SteveC says:
That's true. I guess it could be the manner in which you escaped that was the major problem. An unlocked door can't be a good sign for them. Someone must have unlocked it.

Amanda says:
it wasn't unlocked, the lock was just shit

SteveC says:
What vice did your cellmate get told he had?

Amanda says:
Erm, Roger?

Amanda says:
anger, i think

SteveC says:
#2 is new to the Balance. I guess he's taking it in new directions as a result. Suspicious entry though, as far as we can tell, normally people enter the leadership at #25 and work their way up. He went in as #2.

SteveC says:
What was said about Ben Abhu. He thinks he may have information for us. Knowing more about him might help get it out of him more quickly.

Amanda says:
i'm sorry, i honestly can't remember

Amanda says:
something about this operation being a good comeback after he comprimised them last year or... something like that anyway

Amanda says:
incidentally

Amanda says:
i don't know if it's any help

Amanda says:
but Kyle's work's website has been updated with something interesting

Amanda says:
you know he works at JRG yeah?

SteveC says:
Yeah.. we were told that JRG may have been receiving a letter.. Will check it out.

Amanda says:
yeah, a strange letter by the looks of things

SteveC says:
Someone started at JRG the day Kyle went missing. Do you know anything about him?

Amanda says:
No idea

Amanda says:
i read that though...

SteveC says:
James Holden.

Amanda says:
I don't see why that's suspicious though

Amanda says:
No-one knew Kyle was missing until after that

SteveC says:
It's probably not. But knowing anything would be helpful at this point.

Amanda says:
yeah

Amanda says:
well i don't know any more, sorry

SteveC says:
Sounds as if we've got as many leads as the police, we're waiting for some of them to come together and make more sense.

Amanda says:
yeah

SteveC says:
As usual, if you do hear, think of or remember anything. Drop me an email. ItsIllakSPLATgmail.com (not this email! It doesn't work)

SteveC says:
I don't suppose you know if any of the other kidnapped people were related at all to JRG? Or indeed yourself?

Amanda says:
not that i know of. Sorry

SteveC says:
OK, as usual, stay safe. I think they are worried that you know more than you remember. Maybe some small bit of information is important to them, but seems trivial to you.

SteveC says:
No chance you ever heard anyone using a computer voice synth? That's how someone from the inside is communicating with us.

Amanda says:
heh, no, sorry.

Amanda says:
anyway, i should dash

Amanda says:
talk later

Amanda says:
thanks again for your help

Amanda says:
x

I've been emailing Graeme back and forth, mostly just talking about what's been talked about before, but I got this from him this morning;

Graeme wrote:
Okay, this is getting really weird.

At about 3 o'clock this morning, I received a phone call. It was a
synthetic voice, which just said "Get out." And that was it. I didn't
think anything of it, but piecing everything together... think it might be
related?

Graeme

I replied with;

Flidget wrote:
Dear Graeme,

It seems horribly likely it is connected. I know anyone can use a voice synthasizer, but based on what we've seen so far I think that person was trying to help you.

Get your wife and leave your house as soon as you can. Either you or she know something without realising it, and now they may be coming to silence you.

If nothing happens you'll at least have enjoyed a spontaneous romantic weekend break, which your wife will probably really appreciate. If something does happen, at least you won't be there when it does.

Take care and stay safe,

Flidget

I guess they got fed up waiting for us:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Received this from The Unidentified today:

The Balance seem to have updated their intranet. Shame they're not very forthcoming.

Oh well, I can see to that.

I received this email from Madeline Ascott today:

Quote:
Hello, apologies for getting in touch directly with you, but I've been searching the internet for anyone involved in the case and your name came up. I am Madeline Ascott, mother of Jennifer Ascott. I don't know if you've heard her name, but she is one of the people currently missing in the UK. I was just wondering if you've heard anything about Jennifer. If not, no worries, but it would be brilliant if you could be of any assistance.

Thank you for your time
Madeline

Obviously we don't know a great deal about Jennifer at the moment but I'd hazard a guess that we may be about to find something out about her. I sent a reply outlining how we're trying to help and saying not to worry; I also asked her if she could give me any information on her daughter, interests and bad habits specifically.

Helen,
we have a very important question for you, and it's important that
you answer it ass clearly as possible. Do you know anything about
where Amanda might be? We need to know whether she's safe or not,
whether she may have gone into hiding herself, or indeed if not where
she may have been when she disappeared again recently. Your help is
greatly appreciated.

Quote:

To: Graeme Wilson

Have you heard or seen anything more at the Manor since last time we spoke?

Quote:

To: JRG Marketing

So Mr. Derby. Why were you sending messages to yourself?

Quote:

To: Ben Abhu

Ben,
Time is running out. #2 now appears to be running the balance and
has said he's going to start killing their captives. We know who he
is, but we don't know his motivation, or his future plans. Is there
anything you know about him that could give us some leverage?

Quote:

To: The balance

It appears as if the balance is about to collapse at the hands of a
madman. Anyone involved in it's leadership is likely to be held to
account. right up to #25. I don't know who reads these, but it's
possible that you want to stop #1 or #2 (Gareth Derby) from reading
this, and stop them from murdering innocent people in persuit of their
own fame. Mr. Dubois may be being influenced somehow by Mr. Derby,
but it's clear that neither are to be relied on anymore.

Quote:

To: The Unidentified

It seems we never solved one of your puzzles. Given the pressing
nature of the current situation, maybe you could lead us a little
further? It seems that membership of the Balance's leadership is
about to become a very publically criminal offence, more direct help
may be mitigating in the future?

Some replies (other than their proximity, emailed within minutes of each other):

Quote:

From: Helen Alderman

I know exactly what's going on, I've told the police but they've no idea
where she is. I know you have the power to do something. Please, I beg
you, save my daughter.

Helen

Heh.

We've made our choice. It's time for you to make yours.

It seems you're right. Someone's hammering my door down right now.
Ah, there it goes.

Shit. I have to go, then. You may not hear from me again. Pass on my
regards to everyone.

god, i dont know. sorry, i was trying to distance
myself from all this.

er... how long have you got? there must be a way of
getting in touch with another balance member but i
cant think how. sorry.

Whoops

OK, sorry for not keeping up, just received my reply from the Balance:

Quote:

Cowards. Utter cowards.

You had the ability to save lives. You threw it away.
Shameful.

We took the liberty of making a new choice for you.
Let's see what the papers will be saying tonight, shall we? http://thebalance.0nyx.com/paper.htm

You won't be hearing from us again.

All the best
The Balance

F*ck.

I said they were gonna die........so there was a way to save them, after all. Might have helped if they'd given us the chance to solve all the puzzles and find the clues we needed.[/quote]

Maybe we shouldn't have played hardball with him. If we had saved... well, never mind, too late for spec.

I'm loving the "unassuming door" bit,

Quote:
salkunh23: where is the balances headquarters?

benabhu : in leeds

benabhu : you wouldnt know it was there

benabhu : its underground

benabhu : a little unnasuming keycoded door and its all undernearth

benabhu : *underneath

Cool
How nice that they can throw in an in-joke on the evidence of our failure Sad

Interestingly I asked Ben exactly where that was today and he declined to answer. He seemed like he was happy to tell what he knew, but still didn't mention exactly where it was. Could have set the police on the place and won! Geez.. Wink

But enough of the recriminations, we all know it was flutesalad's fault, he wrote the email. Razz
