Rob's Quest For Bargain Bin Treasure

Out of SHEER BOREDOM, and to give me something cool to write about, I have decided that I shall embark upon a Quest.

I shall detail my adventures in a blog - right now I'm just using my normal blog. Basically, the Quest is for a bunch of really old and really hard-to-find computer games. The list and and anecdotes can be found starting with this post: http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=RobMagus&nextdate=4%2f17%2f2005+23%3a59%3a59.999

Now, I'm pretty sure SOME of you out there will have some of these games. If you are going to ARG-Fest-O-Con, PLEASE bring them with you, preferably with manual and box (though even just the CD will make me deleriously happy), and we'll work out a deal. I'll buy them off you for anything less than 20 bucks, and donations to the Quest will be accepted graciously. And I'll write about you nicely in the accompanying blog.

I know - I'm insane. Thank you any and all who help, and hopefully it'll be an entertaining read when it's all over and done with.

Are you fulfilling some kind of weird inheritance requirement?

Bwahahahahah!

/me fondles her copies of "Ripley's Believe It Or Not: The Riddle of Master Lu", "Sanitarium", and "The Longest Journey".

No way I'm parting with these babies, but I'll keep an eye out for you. Very Happy

Does ebay go against your quest rules? Or must you find them in an actual Bin? Razz

Longest Journey

The Riddle of Master Lu

Sanitarium

Also, you can get the CJ games on the commemorative CD at his site.

Another long forgotten game

I"ve been looking for an old dos game for years. It's called Heaven and Earth. Like an idiot, I gave the disk and manual away and have regretted it since.

No Bags, but you've given me a nasty idea of what to put in my future will.

Varin, eBay doesn't go against the rules, but it's a last resort. I'm doing this partially so that I can have interesting experiences to write about - finding the game at the bottom of a bin in some run-down pawn shop or having some games donated to me by a bunch of wackos in Ney York City is far more interesting then buying them all on eBay.

Wow... there's some classics in there...

I know at some point in my life i owned The Ripley's game and the Castle of Dr. Brain... But I would be amazingly surprised if those survived moving to college, moving out of college, and getting married (and moving twice since then...)

But I'll keep an eye out for ya!

I have ALL the Dr.Brain series. My daughter and I played them over and over, so for sentimental reasons I will keep them forever.

I do, however, have a copy of The Dig which I bought from a bargin bin years ago but never got around to playing. Was it any good? Should I try it out before giving it to a good home?

This Quest of yours makes me want to create an inventory of exactly what I do own. Ugh, that sounds like work!

Definitely try The Dig. It's one of the better science fiction plots in adventure games, and it's got one of the best atmospheric soundtracks.

Also, the next post of the Serialized Adventures of Rob on His Quest for Bargain Bin Treasure has gone up. http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=RobMagus&nextdate=4%2f18%2f2005+23%3a59%3a59.999

Tien_Le: Is this the game you are looking for? HOTU Heaven & Earth

Home of the Underdogs is a great page if you are searching for an old game, most of the games on the site has been released as freeware and you can download them right there.

(By the way, Space Quest rules.)

But how would you actually play that game if you still had it?

Surely it was on those giant floppy discs??
