Well, there are people who hit 10,000.

I'm stamping "stalled" on this one. And it will quickly turn to "ended" if they don't start doing something soon.

Well Jonny 10,

I think that they are waiting for a certain amount of people to get an elite score, which is 3500 or more.

In order to do this you need to complete the first 4 levels and get to level 5, even if you don't get any runners on level 5, you still pass as an Elite scorer.

I think the scoreboard is just for our benefit, so we can compete against each other. They are'nt looking at how high you get, just whether you pass, by inputting your COD identity once you get the elite score.

I hope not Sad This looked like it could be really good! No word from the PM's though. And it's not exactly been the speediest of games up to this point.

Yeah, at first I thought, "OK, this one is going to go in pseudo-real time, and it would take a week or so to process the STS scores". Then I thought, "OK, they're waiting for more people to get elite scores, then it'll get going". But now, I'm thinking that they've got all the elite scores that they're going to get and either they get on the ball and keep player attention or they shut it down. Over two weeks with not a scrap of activity...we can't have just missed something or we'd have gotten a hint by now. Sadly, I think we're in meltdown mode. Which is odd for Virtuquest, they tend to just delay a launch until a game is ready rather than let it die. This is their business, after all, and you don't get more business by blowing a game.

And yes, I do think this is Virtuquest, as it's the only PM to whom I've given the phone number that I've been called on, and according to their site their summer ARG signup is closed.

Boo hoo Virtuquest.

Virtuquest?

The link to this game on ARGN main page has the little asterisk - indie project mileage may vary warning. I think it was Konamouse who posited that the PM's might have some connection with Virtuquest, and yet still be on their own.

Anyway it seems like the more exciting the game is the more savage a meltdown could be. What usually causes meltdowns, or at least really long pauses? Is it that the PMs wait for a certain obscure puzzle to be solved before progressing, or do they run out of money or fresh ideas? Is it customary for an ARG to be written on the fly as it progresses, or is it usually preplanned in advance before the first trailhead appears?

I'd just like to say that "indie project - mileage may vary' label means nothing, as Perplex City is not an 'indie project', and yet it was plagued with delays and other issues.

There could be one of any number of reasons why nothing is happening with this ARG. Generally, if there is a puzzle that has to be solved, and the players either don't know how to solve it, or don't know anything about it, the PMs may give a 'nudge' to direct players down the right track.

In other instances, it could be an issue of the ARG written as players go along. Some ARGs work fine like that, some don't.

In this case, it's been over two weeks with no interaction at all. There was a flash game written, phone calls made, and emails sent out. This doesn't seem like an ARG written 'as players go along' so far. I'm not sure what's going on, but it's not looking good right now.

So what has to happen before it is officially recorded as a meltdown? The PM's burning the curtain, veiled hints, complete radio silence?

What I have noticed is a 'meltdown', or 'implosion' occurs when sites disappear, or when the PMs just come out and say: "Sorry, it's over".

Until then, it just stays in a "stalled" state, with people waiting for the smallest glimpse of movement.

Shocked Yipes. I don't know whether to wait this one out or try to start playing another game. What if I get into something else and this one starts up something awesome again?

How many Args can a person reasonably participate in?

As Max said that's a question only you can answer but I wouldn't delay finding out at this point.

I really don't think this is a VirtueQuest game. My thought is that whoever started this game is really good at digging up info on folks and might have a connection to someone who does have some info on some of us. I've given my phone number to CTW, Urban Hunt, Acheron and Aware. I am sure this isn't a Dave (CTW, Urban Hunt) game.
