ahh, now we know that this thread will never die. You spoke the secret words passed down through millenia by the gods of arg.
what.. we were all thinking it Laughing

i do agree tho. It seems that cognivia and these barely legal drugs are somehow linked to the cube. hopefully we shall reveal more soon.

Actually, the use of Photographic images is not unique to the Conivia website as the PCBC website uses photography as well. As has been suggested perhaps this is just the more professional approach that is expected in big businesses?

I hate to mention my own work (again), but my famous rejected Sentinel article 'What Price Utopia?' made a fair bit of fuss about how a society that espouses intellectualism at all costs probably ended up creating serious social problems as a result. You may be able to find it somewhere by searching, if you're interested in seeing what I said.

By inclination, I'm an intellectual, romantic idealist...but that doesn't mean that I can't recognise the downside to having attitudes like that Smile

My instinct has a habit of being wrong (My theory of the Sleeping Princess being the past 'human life' of Melissa the AI from ILB was made long before end-game) and I have this feeling about Cognivia that a lot of others seem to share. They just don't seem... right, somehow. I can't put my finger on it, but it's there.

I could say the same for Sente. He is giving us very little details on what exactly happened the night the cube was stolen, and I am sure if he did we would find out sooner rather than later who was behind the theft. And the whole cards deal to get the key to who was behind it... how does he know enough to give clues on cards, but not to give us a solid story as to what happened?

Back on track, though, Cognivia just seems very... wrong.

EDIT: Wait, I just remembered, Cognivia had recently gained a 51% stake in Agilon AI. Artificial Intelligence? What does a drug company want with 51% of an AI company?

EDIT2: I got curious and sent an e-mail to Cognivia. I got a response almost immediately. Interesting...

Quote:
Hello Cognivia, I am DM.

I am interested in Ceretin and how it works. The drug seems quite spectacular to me. Can you tell me how exactly it gets into the system and affects the brain? What side effects does it have?

Thank you very much.

-DM

Thank you for your interest in Ceretin. Ceretin is the market's leading wide-spectrum cognitive enhancer and offers significant advances over previous generations and competing products. However, as with all cognitive enhancers, it does have mild side effects. These include possible disorientation, mild synaesthesia, restlessness and agitation. For more information, please contact your doctor.

Ceretin Customer Support, Cognivia

Mild synaesthesia? For those that do not know, Synaesthesia is an extremely rare case, where people can 'taste colors and see sounds'. As I said, extremely rare. best example of it is when people see letters as colored. Like A is Red and B is Green, so on and so fourth. More info here.

Cool Smile Though, not to sound snarky, but synesthesia has actually already been mentioned earlier in this thread. Also, the response from Cognivia is for one of the puzzle card solves ( Sharp Red, Ceretin side effects), in case anyone would like to join in that discussion Smile

Just having a look at the news and stumbled across this on the bbc news website!

Apparently
Quote:
"cognitive enhancers" could become as "common as coffee"
and
Quote:
Scientists said it could raise issues about what substances children undertaking exams could use.

they're coming into our world!

They mentioned this research in The Independent this morning. However, I automatically distrust any story that incorporates something as vague as 'Scientists predict in 20 years time, we will all...' [fill in here]. True, what with Modafinil, SSRI's and so on, already being manufactured and distributed within our society, it might only be a matter of time. But, in 1970, people were confidently predicting that, in 20 years, we'd be living in underwater habitats, space colonies, and/or a New Ice Age. So, pinch of salt time, methinks.

I know we're generally in agreement that Perplex City is an ARG for the sake of the ARG ... but how ominous and creepy would it be to find out that a RL cognitive-enhancing pharmaceutical company was behind this whole guerilla marketing campaign to sell neuro-enhancing drugs to people who need to be smarter to play freaking puzzle cards?

It's ok, most of these drugs (SSRIs etc) are also effective for symptoms of paranoia..... Wink

Wild Spec!!!

I think all wild specs should be delivered by someone with schizoid paranoia. That being said:

MY GRAND THEORY!!!

The Nine were out in the woods camping in the middle of a freakin' storm. What they didn't know is they accidentally stumbled into the middle of Cognivia's "Special Projects" dumpsite, recently new home to the Receda Cube. Cognivia's recently acquired S.O.T.A. Agilon AI determined the campers were a threat, and executed them with extreme prejudice, utilizing of course an electronic weapon similar to a controlled lightning strike. Cognivia didn't realize what went wrong until it was too late, and had to set the surrounding forest on fire to cover their tracks. A little creative forestry always helps cover-ups. They of course remembered to wipe the camper's keys, just in case the AI didn't do it well enough. Then, they moved the Cube to Earth, or more simply left it exactly where it was because they figured it was just such a good hiding place the first time, taking the time to tweak the AI so it won't attack again.

I've never been fully convinced the cube ever actually left Perplex City's universe. Look how much difficulty they have getting electronic transmissions over here, let alone anything solid. Not too mention from an OOG perspective how much difficulty it would entail creating this mystical cube and then hiding it somewhere for over a year without anyone accidentally finding it.

Just something to tuck away to the back of the mind....

The back of card #243 Shuffled says "rumours persist that Cognivia even has it's own private subway station." That would be the Cognivia Research division, south of Polygon Park.
