Cards Released
19th July 2005
After many months of feverish development at the Perplex City Academy, the puzzle cards finally launched this week in nine stores around the world.
66 limited edition cards (out of the 256 in total) are currently available in this initial release, allowing a sneak preview of Perplex City. A range of new features will be added to Perplexcity.com in the coming months such as leaderboards, forums and player profile pages.
So ... does this mean our lovely forum will disperse and port over to perplexcity.com?

I doubt it's necessary, but it may be beneficial. I would like to see what other PPC playes are like.

I suspect they'd like us to, but whether it actually happens will be seen...odd that you have to solve a card to enter a forum to discuss it, though.
and there's a cute link to GuyP's blog on the page.

Interesting that my firefox browser is not showing a new version of the site and yet IE is, in reference to the discussion about Kurt's blog.

I love the 'limited edition' notion. Already, it seems like a fair amount of players have bought cards, and we're already getting mutiple repeats after posting up about 20 - 25 puzzles? Seems to me like a *very* astute move to maximise the profits from the cards on MC's behalf - don't release all the potential puzzles at once! Not that I begrudge them the chance to make some money, mind. I just like the cunning behind it.

Surely the limited edition part means that there isnt a clear runaway leader on the board, as you are likely to get a LOT of dupes and as long as you have the card with the special number on, when you are able to logg in personally you should get points for a solve despite how many people have the card ...Shouldnt you???

Actually, it's probably just a cache issue. Hit "refresh" in firefox a couple of times

do you guys think that the population of people playing Perplex City but not at least checking (if not contributing to) these forums is very large?

I kind of hope so. I love you guys, but it's always fun to see other people who aren't into ARGs experience one.
At least, it was fun when I was one of those people.

I guess this is the way to make the game as inclusive as possible. People can be put off by forums (fora?) like this one. The number of posts now is intimidating. Although there are excellent primers and the like and everyone is friendly and welcoming, it is in MCs best interest to control every aspect of their product and ensure that the widest fan base is catered for. The element of competition provided by the site could turn it into a craze.
They've established a hard-core fan base, so now it's time to gather up kids who want to trade cards and score points, with no interest in spec, and retired teachers that like a good puzzle to ward off Alzheimers.
I wonder how many cards they have to sell to make a profit?

Lots of little tiny clues all over this new site. fFor example:
