I am deeply suspicious of No. 5. For two reasons:

1) Tolkien created two languages for his elves (or he created elves for his two languages, to be pedantic): Quenya and Sindarin. 'Amin mela lle' is a bastard form of Sindarin, the one based on Welsh, although the rest of the language on the site from whence it came looks like crap.

2) Tolkien famously never created the verb 'to love' in either language.

On second thoughts, ' I think it is right, although it would mean something like 'you are my friend'.

So, yeah. Sindarin, not Elvish. Maybe that will help.

Trying everything here, the full list (corrected):

FRENCH
ITALIAN
GERMAN
WELSH
SINDARIN
DANISH
JAPANESE
RUSSIAN
GHANAIAN (AKAN, TWI)
SWAHILI

And the names of those languages, in those languages:

FRANCAIS (cidilla under the C)
ITALIANO
DEUTSCH
CYMRAEG
SINDARIN/EDHELLEN (EDHELLEN is Sindarin in Sindarin, SINDARIN itself is a Quenya word)
DANSK
NIHONGO
RUSSKIY (Silly alphabets notwithstanding, so there are several ways of transliterating this, including RUSSKIJ)
AKAN/TWI
KISWAHILI

Any thoughts?

Not to be too pedantic myself, but technically there were many 'elvish' language families. Sindarin and Quenya were the most developed and most present in the corpus.

"Amin mela lle" is from the (website) Grey Company's 'Grelvish,' which most definitely is Quenya-derived. Some Sindarin is inserted to make up holes in vocabulary, but the basic grammar and syntax (if it can claim to have such) is from Quenya. I can go through the individual words here, but I don't think that will help us.

I suspect that perhaps the author of this card simply didn't know the actual history/linguistic background of "Elvish."

To be most accurate, upon reflection, the language should definitely be listed as Grelvish.

This site talks about Grelvish....and even has an english to elvish dictionary

http://www.arwen-undomiel.com/elvish/intro.html

Edit: on further investigation I don't think it will help much other than to explain what Grelvish is....

That last language

Shouldn't we try to see if we can find a system in those languages... Maybe then in the end we will be able to, logically to find the last letter (being elvish, or whatever)

The text messaging system is not yet operational (which you would know had you checked the FAQ at perplexcity.com)

Also; please take the time to use the "Edit" button located in the top-right corner of each and evrypost you make. Smile

Street

I just had an idea. If we can find out what the name of the strret in the picture is, maybe that can help us out. There could be some sort of clue in the name (If the solution has to be a word, and not just all the languages.) There are two towers in the background. Maybe anyone can recognize them, or know someone who does?.. To me it looks like southern France, or Northern Italy.

though I still take issue with 'elvish.' hrmph.

Nooooo! This is now the third card where the site won't accept my answers even when I triple-check the spellings, not just here but via Google too. This is rubbish!

Yes I had the same thing happen on this one, even after taking great care with the spelling.

How long until you can try again after three failed attempts? 24 hours, or a calendar day?
