Actually,
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I, L AND Y could be AND I L Y ( and I love you), as in a response to a hypothetical previous letter saying I love you. So perhaps the letters are in THAT order.

Well done on the solve tho. Amazing. Surprised

Congrats on the solve. I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but right at the bottom of the letter Tippy's signature is printed a second time. It's running vertically, bottom to top and only just comes onto the letter. If you look at it in the right light you can just about make out the whole thing is there but unfortunately I wasn't able to enhance it since it's only just a shade darker than the surrounding area.

Anyway, it's probably just a design/printing error but thought it might be worth documenting just in case.

EDIT: Ooops, didn't realise MC had changed the rules about posting high-res portions of cards. Scan now changed. Sorry about that.

Has anyone actually confirmed this answer on the leaderboard/solve pages? I tried several permutations and could not get them to work.

Hi

Good solve.

I had 'fiery pursuit (for pique)' down as 'chasing the dragon (stimulation)', another well know vice.

[SOLVED] #184 - Love Letters

The final answer is found using the scrabble method and is exactly as shown below

While I'm not above just taking the answer and running, in this case it would be nice to see the scrabble solve explained.

Sure thing:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The title "Love Letters" and "lexical game" give us the hint that the answer is related to Scrabble. The note is written using Scrabble tiles, essentially.
Distribution of tiles in Scrabble:

A:9, B:2, C:2, D:4, E:12, F:2, G:3, H:2, I:9, J:1, K:1, L:4, M:2,
N:6, O:8, P:2, Q:1, R:6, S:4, T:6, U:4, V:2, W:2, X:1, Y:2, Z:1, blank:2.

The message contains 9 A's, 2 B's, 2 C's, 4 D's, etc. The leftover tiles are A, D, I, N, Y, and a blank. Hence "and I L Y" (though I still like "I L and Y" myself Razz).

Question for those who got this

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

So is the first word 'Jo' or am I missing a J somewhere?

I had the missing letters, but with an extra J in them Smile

Also, how can you tell that the solution gets to use 1 blank only? I am not convinced that you can tell there is a blank in the poem already, for 'tis, and not say, another one for the e in kava'd

Since you spoilered the question, I'll spoiler the answer, just in case:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Yes, the first word is "JO". If you then count up the number of letters used, and compare them with the number of tiles in a standard English Scrabble set, you'll find that everything matches exactly, except the message uses one too many "S"s, and so one of them must have been written on one of the two blank tiles (it doesn't matter which "S" in the message is on the blank). That leaves behind "A", "D", "I", "N" and "Y". Using the remaining blank as "L" gives "AND I L Y".
