Darn...

Decisions, decisions. So many games, so little time. Which one to choose? Well, I'll be on a plane to New York on the 28th, but I think that I will have to get to a Kinko's as soon as I land. So, that would be like, what? 9pm EDT (or AM as the case may be)?

I need to see,
what this crafty little PM,
has in store for me."

There is a book I would really love to be turned into an ARG... when I read "Electronic Stock Broker" that was the first thing that came to mind.. Let's see what comes out of this, very good start.

Holy mommy of mole how many args can we play at once?

Maybe the play on words (trope) is Russian = rush in? Which would fit with a future launch date...on July 28 we can all rush in to this game?

ARGH!

(ie. I was really looking forward to this one, but that's the day Cambridge Festival starts so I'll be away for 5 days.)

And, of course, just as we thought nothing would happen for a while, this gargantuan thing turns up in my inbox:

Quote:
Dear, Mr. Denby,

It appears we have come across an interesting matter.

First, do allow me to introduce myself. My name is Robert Beletsky. I
live in Ashland, Oregon--it is in the southernmost part of Oregon. I
serve as housekeeper, shoufer, and personal chef for the Alter family
here in Ashland.

I must admit that your message comes at quite the cynical time.
Nevertheless, for reasons beyond my knowing I was informed that such an
inquiry would arrive. You mention GypsySoft, which is a tad odd. I am
aware of the company, yes. My late employer, Mr. Joseph Alter, was once
chairman and CEO of the company, which produced software (mostly for
local businesses). Mr. Alter was rather successful and quite rich;
however, he was very fanatical and frankly quite sick in the head. He
had extreme paranoia, and believed that near everyone, excluding his
wife, Sarah, and I was after his "ideas." At any rate, despite having
several secretaries to call his own he would often order things or send
letters through his wife's name, and even more cruelly would register my
email address in most of his online endeavors (much to the ache of my
geriatric hands, I'm afraid).

The thing to know is that GypsySoft no longer exists. The company fell
apart several years ago (due to an emergency involving Mr. Alter's
mental illness) and will remain so. At the time, they were working on a
very interesting project, might I add--it was some sort of an electronic
stock market fortune teller, or something in that area.

The reason I called your timing "cynical" is that just four days ago Mr.
Alter died. May I please say that because of this, he and his company
are quite a delicate matter in the household. If you have any more
questions for your little "treasure hunt," I would be happy to help,
but please consider what we are going through presently.

As I write this, Mrs. Alter is informing me that several unknown
individuals called today. Let me take the time to say that if it was
you, or anyone you know, please instruct them never to call again. Mrs.
Alter is a spiritual massage therapist, and somehow (I'm assuming
through Mr. Alter's paranoia) you have acquired the number to her
personal line. I'd be happy to help you solve your little mystery, Mr.
Denby, but do not dare bring my employer into this, especially in these
hard times. Besides, if she picked up anyway (which she rarely does) I
would expect a rude hang up. So just don't call her. Consider that a
warning.

That was a tad long-winded, but I am as interested in this odd occurence
as you are. Nevertheless, the included information is all that I'm
willing to disclose at this time--although perhaps it was too much. I
hope it is of some help. If I think of any former employee of the
company who might have sent the letter, I will be sure to contact you.
Otherwise, I would consider this some bizarre prank, I suppose.

Robert Beletsky

EDIT: and my response:

Quote:
I am very sorry to hear about Mr. Alter. Yourself, and the entire household, has my sincerest condolences. I must assure you that it was not me who called Mrs. Alter's number. I believe someone did find a number by researching the reverse address on the letter, and called out of sheer curiosity. Whatever is going on here, we have reason to believe is more than a sick joke. We are trying to help.

I appreciate that you are going through a hard time, but if there is *anything* you think may be of interest to myself or others, please don't hesitate to get in touch. We believe someone's life may be in danger.

Lewis

Very interesting message!

To me excellent writing = excellent ARG .. This thing has managed to give aa hint of a classic mystery without sounding too cliched.

So many games.. so little time..

Lewis if you contact him again maybe you can find out how he was informed about this contact.

And maybe you can ask if he's seen the gypsybeta website and the page that says gypsybeta will be released in 2006. If the project was shut down several years ago, someone's been working on it.

Why do I do these things to myself?

I'm gonna try to keep my eye on this one.

LOL Addie. Maybe someone should suggest that he download the updated google toolbar, complete with spellcheck.
