Horse I really don't see why this has to be in a spoiler but, here it goes: The horse is located
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
in the scene which directly follows the one where Tom Cruise says to his son "I need to rest my eyes, you drive." The son responds "But I don't have a license." Then Tom says "That's never seemed to stop you before.".
Then it shows the son driving and Tom is asleep on the passenger side of the vehicle.
Then, somehow, Tom is driving again and we are now inside the vehicle. The horse appears really quickly, but if you are watching the left side of the screen you will see it through the window. It's a brown horse with the numbers written in white on the side of it's body.
It's before the ferry scene, after they steal the van and after the girl sees the dead bodies floating in the river.
I hope that makes things a little clearer for you.
You'll know you have missed it when...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
you see Tom crash the van into a light pole after trying to get someone who has decided to jump onto the front of the vehicle, and smash his hand through the windshield, off of the vehicle. During what I will phrase simply as "the mob scene".
On a personal/spec note: I can't help but think that this might be someone who was simply trying to get their 15 minutes of fame by painting their number on a horse. But why not edit it out of the movie? Probably because the studio didn't think anyone would really get it since it happens so quickly. But, you never know. I hope it's a game. It would be really cool.

when you are filming a movie, especially something this close,,,,you would notice something like an extra painting his phone number on your horse.

hehe Well, you didn't. I'm just kidding around with ya. Yeah, they woud notice it, but I still don't know, just like everyone else. Like I said, I hope it's a game.
On an interesting note: There is an interview with both Tom Cruise and Mr. Spielberg at moviefone.com (?). I have seen it and they mention a couple of things like creating an "alternate reality" and "we are both really good at figuring things out". "Not that there's a lot to figure out" says Mr. Spielberg". They are talking about movies and characters, but it's still interesting considering what we are talking about here.

I just got back from seeing the movie. Fortunately, all this talk about looking for a phone number completely slipped my mind as i was immersed in the plight of the characters. When the moment arrived, my mind did wake up, and i deliberately didn't look for all of the digits. In my opinion, it was just part of the realism of the scene, same as if they had filmed a story about the aftermath of a hurricane and had a shot of a house with contact info on it. This is what people do in a war zone, they leave messages for others to be able to find them later.
The fact that it was not the infamous "555" exchange kept me in the moment, rather than jarring me back to the safety of "this is only a movie". If indeed they had to use a real working phone number, I think it would be only to keep the loonies from requesting it from the phone company themselves.
Enjoy tracking down the meaning of their choice of numbers. If nothing else, you hone your detective skills.

Yeah and I even thought that might be a 009
But considering
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The area this was seen in the movie was local to a hudson river crossing at Athens NY (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&address=&city=athens&state=ny&zipcode=). There was an exodus of people moving northward, and away from NYC.
This making it entirly feasable that this horse did indeed come from trenton, and highly unlikly it came from anywhere else with a X09 area code.
