Okay, I'm going to bid on that item, but first I want to know ... who is wendyhue? Anyone know? Related to you johnahue? If it's a fellow ARGer, I'd feel bad outbidding them. If I don't find out by, say, later tonight, I'll just go ahead and bid. And don't worry about the Paypal just yet. I'm good for the $51 at least. Whatever this thing is, I kinda want it. (Not if it'll cost me $47,000 though!)

No I'm not. I wish I knew who that was, though! I hope it's not another ARGer... I'm going to try to figure out who it is, and if I can't figure it out, I'll bid soon. I hate bidding early because it usually just jacks up the price.
[EDIT]: FYI - I'm cubhaystack on ebay, so if you see someone bidding as such, please don't outbid me! (Unless you have some reason aside from outbidding non-Omnifam affiliated peoples, or some other random legit reason).

Well I heard from wendyhue on ebay. Here's what she had to say:
Quote:
Hello!
I heard of this listing through an acquaintance who attended a meeting that I was unable to make, due to work and financial obligations. There was speculation about whether or not this item should be bid on, so I decided to take advantage of the opportunity! Unfortunately, it seems that my initial bid of $74 has been exceeded, and although I believe this would be a lovely piece to start a collection with, paying much more than that for a mere reproduction seems unfounded. What are your thoughts on the matter?
It would seem she's a player, too. From where? I don't know. So yeah, I'm not sure where to go from here. Should I reply "in character"? And what do I tell her? *shrugs* Not sure yet...

Heh! I have no idea who that person is, so, really, 'acquaintance' indeed.

hmm..and it's curious that she's bidding on her own, instead of with a group like us. it's a considerable amount of money to be spending personally on this game. At least we are willing to donate, so ursos doesn't have to pay it all!

I've got my bid on there now for high bid. Looks like malika/Funky Monkey made a bid retraction. Anyway, don't worry about collecting money for this now. I'm still waiting for it to get nabbed by some third party at the last minute. We'll just let this play out for now.

Maybe we don't NEED to actually win the auction? I just went out to see how high the bids were getting, and noted that the "auctioner" has posted a GIANT (2400 x 2334) version of the document - so we can clearly see every detail...
In looking at it, outside of the general "cool" factor - the only things that are fairly legible are the numbering and symbols towards the bottom:
"II ...stuff .. III ... stuff ... IIII"
Ideas?

Yeah, but he didn't put the high resolution file up until I asked him in an email, So it may have not been important.
here was his reply:
Sorry about that, my assistant set the shipping wrong on the listing. It's been corrected. (in regards to shipping to Japan)
I acquired the forgery after a dealer of ill-repute attempted to pass it off as genuine. I was called in by the potential buyer, and spotted it as a fake at once. The buyer was grateful for my help and convinced the dealer to give me the drawing for my trouble. There is nothing on the back. I will ask my assistant about a higher quality scan, he's much more savvy about these things than I am.

Perhaps you could ask what it was that gave him immediate assurance that it was a fake?

The fact that there wasn't a puzzle on it? ... -shifty eyes-
Maybe we're supposed to get the document (we = one of us) and get it to Omnifam somehow, or keep it from the Followers of Rambaldi... ... or something.
[meta] Or maybe our luverly PMs need some dough to pay off a clown and some new stuff coming up. =P

So I emailed merritparker about why he knew it was a fake, and he replied with this:
Actually, it's quite the amusing story. I'll post it in my blog when I get a moment this weekend.
So lets look for a good post this weekend!
