I was just going to ask the same thing. It's been pretty quiet since the first few people got their datacards... I haven't gotten one yet (but every day I run to the mailbox!). I assume I will since I got the e-mail talking about it. Has anyone tried to set up a meeting yet? Does anyone live in/near Chicago? I'm about 6 hours away, so it's not impossible for me to go, but I'd love to hear if the drop-off can happen in another city...
I was trying to look up some of that information on the .gpg file and how to use those, but it pretty much confused the heck out of me. I'm going to look around some more and hopefully make some sense out of it. I'm wondering, though, if it's something we CAN decode, or if it was just a file given to us with a filename that looks like something that someone might want/need/etc, and that's it. In other words, there's alway the chance it's something we're not meant to crack, and if we did, it'd be gibberish. That doesn't mean I'm giving up on it, though.

Are we even meant to crack it? Maybe thats out of our classification level.

Well I got it! My special mail arrived today. Thankfully, intact. The case has a little crack in it, and the evelope was about to completely rip open. Anyway, despite the fact that I don't live near Chicago, I've e-mailed the contact to see what we might be able to arrange...

I emailed them also yesterday, haven't had any response yet. Last mission I got completely the wrong Cindy Smith, so hopefully I actually make contact with the right person this time!

Just emailed him - I got my datacard (ee) in the mail today... now I just gotta figure out how to use it. !
Meta: The postmark on my package is Tampa, FL, but the meeting is supposed to take place in Chicago? Hm.
Other Thing: Do ANY of us live in Chicago? I live 2 hours away, so I guess I'm the closest so far... but my parents wouldn't be thrilled about me trying to go down there for no reason.

Your postmark is from Tampa, Booky? Others said it was from The Netherlands. I guess they have some US connections

Well here it is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"I'm afraid that I'm quite busy right now at the lab so I'll have to decline the invitation to lunch. I'll be able to make some time during my next trip to Chicago on the weekend of July 2nd/3rd. Let me know if you can make it and I'll let you know where we can meet. I expect you'll have something for me."
And of course, I won't be in Chicago that weekend. QBKooky? Care to tell your parents it's your dream to visit Chicago on the 4th weekend?
I don't want to reply to the guy before we can figure out if someone can actually go. Then I figure anyone who CAN'T go can say something like, "Hmm, I can't make it but I'm sending my associate in my place. Blah blah blah, whatever whatever whatever." Cool?
Now to figure out who can go...

=\ Unfortunately, I'm leaving the country for three weeks on Wednesday for a service trip... so I won't be able to make any sort of meeting. Hrmm...

poo - I DEFINITELY won't be in Chicago that weekend (y'know, living on the other side of the world and all). So what do we tell him?

Does anyone know someone who is maybe playing another game, who lives in the chicago area who owes you a favor? Someone who would do this one thing for us?

Well varin and krystyn both live in/near Chicago... the only thing is we'd need to get them the datacard. I guess I'll PM both of them and offer to mail my datacard to them to make the dropoff.
Here's the message I've sent:
Quote:
The small band of us who're playing the Alias Omnifam ARG are in a bit of a spot, and were wondering if you could help us out. Several of us have recieved datacards (little things like you put in digital cameras) from an in-game character, and are supposed to execute a "handoff" to another in-game character.
Sometime on July 2nd or 3rd, our in-game contact is going to establish a time and location somewhere in Chicago. Here is the mission we were given:
Quote:
You must bring the datacard to the meeting wrapped in a local newspaper. He will also have a newspaper sitting next to him on a bench. After you make contact, he will leave with your newspaper. Remain seated for at least 10 minutes to divert attention away from any surveillance teams allowing him the opportunity to vacate the area safely.
This is VERY IMPORTANT. If he detects any surveillance and is unsuccessful in his counter-surveillance measures, he will destroy the card to preserve his cover and the mission will be considered a failure.
If you would be able or willing to help us out, I would personally mail you my datacard so you could make the drop off. Please PM me back or drop by this thread if you're interested. Thanks!
*crosses fingers*

Within the ARGing community, I just looked at the memberlist of both UF and IU for people that are in Chicago, and I didn't recognize any of them from any ARG I've played. If one of them had a large number of posts (like over 100) I would consider PMing them to ask for help, because you'd think they're an active ARGer. Outside of the ARGing community, there's no one I know that's in Chicago. And no one I know that's close enough to bother with that kind of thing. *shrugs* I hope someone else does.
