#118 - Green - Chemistry Experiment There's a particular biochemical theory of mine that's never worked out experimentally. I've checked and rechecked my methods, but every trial has left me with the same unusable solid. On my last try, I finally got it working!
In the experiment, I took some embryonic avian cells and placed them in an emulsion with these chemicals:
C12H22O11
NaCl
NaHCO3
KHC4H4O6
I then added a quantity of white fluid, a strong-smelling brown liquid and a fine white powder. I placed the resulting mixture into a ventilated container and heated it uniformly. Remarkably, the odour of my experiment was so overpowering that my labmates rushed over to see what I was doing.
What were the final three substances I used?
Puzzle set by Kurt.
Map shows Newguard Ruins
Little is known of the ruins east of Port Newguard. Records are incomplete and contradictory, but most historians agree that the ruins are the site of a fortress several centuries old. Archeological evidence suggests that the fortress was expanded and rebuilt several times during its existence.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It's based on the chemists chocolate cookie recipe which was an old joke:
embryonic avian cells = eggs
C12H22O11 = sucrose / sugar
NaCl = salt
NaHCO3 = baking soda
KHC4H4O6 = cream of tartar
white fluid = milk ?
a fine white powder = flour?
Put all that together and you get a very basic dough.
Not quite sure about the strong-smelling brown liquid, but I would guessing melted chocolate for some kind of chocolate cake or possible beer for old style pancakes.

This recipe here for Angel Food Cake has all the ingredients mentioned, plus flour, milk and vanilla extract. It doesn't have the baking soda, but I guess that could make up for using plain flour instead of 'cake flour' which I would guess was self raising?

Hey, it's not
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
a cake, it's a souffle! Cakes don't usually collapse into "unusable solids." Depdending on your recipe you may not need all the ingredients mentioned, though.

That said, this is a great card that made me really happy when I figured it out. I seem to rapidly be becoming a huge fan of the green cards in general...

Did anyone notice the letters and number at the very bottom of the card, on the right of the lab coat, and the left of the orange table leg? (Directly below the cup with the blue lable on it? Looks kind of like 'ACB3' to me?
