This seems to be an area where the demands of marketing and the demands of the hardcore ARG community are at odds.

As marketing, it is actually desirable to leave the domain registration open, to avoid the "you're lying and trying to cover it all up" complaint (which is a very real fear for any client willing to shell out $ to produce an ARG.

Same with a link on the site that explains what the site is. On the one hand you want to keep the illusion of reality as much as possible, but on the other there is a need for advertisers to have some sense of transparency, at least until most people understand what a sponsored ARG is and realize it's much like network TV shows -- both are designed to entertain and sell products.

There is a major difference in that some ARGs ("Grassroots") are not designed to sell products (even their own in house generated ones), but yes, they are all designed with entertainment (and indirectly Education) in mind.

That's why I included the word "sponsored" in my initial post (left off your quote), acknowledging that grassroots games have different agendas, more like an indie film compared to a Hollywood movie, perhaps, or PBS to network TV.
