The whole thing reminds me of the new coldplay album. You know how instead of saying X&Y it just shows a whole bunch of colored blocks. The key is inside the album, but maybe it's along the same lines, where each section stands for a letter.
Does this make sense?

Haven't had time to play with it (have a broken arm which makes non-typing mouse manipulation somewhat difficult), but I think you're right. However, any ideas on what the key might be?

I still think the size of the color-blocks has something to do with it.

Shocked Came back from holidays with a broken arm and a vicodrin addiction????

You gotta explain that one, phaedra!

Can someone upload a scan of the X & Y key?
I'm kinda wondering if we're on the right track, maybe this picture is related to Happiness.txt and we're supposed to look for music related solutions?

Maybe I've been sneakin a few of those Vicodrin...

IMHO I don't think it has anything to do with it.

I fell off a rock ledge in Maine. Gashed my face open, too. Smile

Okay, so did this.

The line I separated, if my theory were correct, would come out to be:

6 6 6 12 1 6 6 3 4.

However, it doesn't look like it means anything; if it were the solution, none of the rows could have a length greater than 26 (as there are only 26 letters in the alphabet). Obviously the "blank" lines are longer than 26 units.

So, I think we can rule out this line of inquiry.

If it is something like the x&y puzzle, it possible this could be a joint puzzle that needs to be combined with the happiness.txt, since that one seems to be hinting at a musical solve?

well since we have used the "Start and to the End" bit for the other, then the "Counting" most probably has to do with this solve some how, unless the other bit ties in too

Phaedra:

I think your line of thinking is the most likely. We have to break the whole into a smaller part and work on that somehow. However, I just tried to break the picture up line by line as you did, and had rather less luck?

If I take the horizontal grid lines as being 39, they fall out of alignment for the bottom two "rows" of shapes?

My only other guess at how to do this would be cutting/pasting the shapes to try and make up some sort of picture.. but not having much luck at seeing any patterns.

I think the last two puzzles to fall have been the most bizarre. pole where you just ignored most of the content (including two hidden letters, a couple of mysterious black squares). And happiness.txt where the title had nothing much to do with it, and 97% of the text was irrelevant. I can only assume that this one is an equal leap of logic...?

I can't help but think we're thinking too hard with this one, looking for something a bit too complex. While the others haven't necessarily been obvious right away, the actual solves have been pretty simple once we've known what to look for (or had a gentle nudge in the right direction!)- we spent ages googling a Dr. Tween when it was a simple anagram, and happiness.txt was as simple as taking the first and last words. So I'm fairly confident that this one isn't going to take *too* much brain-bending to solve - that is, once we know what we're looking for...

That said, I still haven't a clue.

There's something interesting about that narrow rectangular feature in the jpg. It doesn't seem likely that a floor plan would have that. But, if you look at that small notch to the left of it, it looks as though they would match up if the picture was cut somewhat in half on the vertical
I don't have the computer know-how to do it myself, but what if one side needs to be the negative image of the other. And maybe either overlapped on top of it, or ... I dunno.... folded in half so that the notch matches up with the narrow rectangle?
Does that make any sense? Embarassed

Going with what drizjr was starting to get at, I split the pic into quarters and started moving them around. They suddenly started jumping out at me as letters, which I hope isn't just a coincidence. They are all rotated 90 CW, and look to me like J P A and then not sure (?, but its the wrong colour)

This doesn't seem quite right yet, but it looks like it could lead somewhere.

I like this idea. Smile

The P looks like it has a dot after it, too, suggesting it's the last letter o a sequence.

*hopes like mad it's not just a coincidence*

Ok this is what I got now, but I'm afraid I may just be seeing ghosts.
The whole thing is rotated and the not rearanged.
Looks to me like J O E A and possibly b l, but there could be other lettes you could get out of it.

I'm sure this puzzle is going to kill me.
