There's a definite resemblance there with the lines and the contours but the card would have to be a closeup of perhaps just one section of a spectrograph rather than the complete thing.

I sure hope it is a closeup! If that's the case then it would be a spectrograph of a particular sound being spoken. Makes the job easier somewhat.

Just had a thought, what if its a spectrograph of a synthesized voice? I'll try that out tomorrow.

I found a very interesting site last night:

http://www.seeingwithsound.com/winvoice.htm

about a hardware device to help the blind move by using sounds, but it breaks things down into stuff that looks like this:

http://www.seeingwithsound.com/wavelet.htm
and
http://www.seeingwithsound.com/altrepr.htm

After all, these would be vOICe diagrams....

Some really cool links there Ashin. I only skimmed over the info but it does look interesting. I'll take a closer look when I get home.

I can confirm, if it *is* a voice pattern, it is *not* saying HELLO or HELLO WORLD. Razz

I did some more testing of my earlier theory regarding a synthesized voice and the spectrograph does look 'smoother' like on the card. Maybe if I can synth the right voice I'll get smooth gradients like on the card...but that's not important I don't think.

Still have to figure out what's being said, if it even is a spectrograph that is.

Riiiight, found a nice little applet that allows you to do an image to voice. I've edited the image to remove the "formants" that have been overlaid in an effort to make it as clean an image as possible..

The result is:

http://home.kallisti.co.uk/voice.html

Click the link at the bottom for elucidate (for technical reasons relating to me being able to use it too and java security, I can't get it to load with elucidate...!)

On another note, I've emailed a woman in scandanavia asking advice on this.

My opinion is that the noises that come out certainly sound like a voice of some sort, and for instance, reversing it or putting in random blobs does not. Hence, I think this is the right track. The problem is that I could barely understand my grandfather's kerry accent let alone some dodgy synth noise. Maybe others are better at that ?

Working theories are: "Mr. Burns", "It's your mum's" "Mysterons".. Ok, not very useful working theories, but working in the absence of a card code, the best I'm likely to come up with Smile

Hmmm... my best guesses are "Restaurants" or "Mister Vance". Is there a Vance somewhere in PPC we have heard about?

all untested, cos i havent got this card:
Lister Lester Ernst, or Hertz or, fiddling with the frequencies, "Wheres Johannes" / "raise your hands" could be anything! It also did sound like Mister Burns too, and slowing the speed i made it sound like Homer, but again, its fiddling...

at least its three syllables!

Thought it might be 'Edison' - given that he invented the electric light, throw light on, etc.
Nope.
Sigh.

Sounds like "Esther Ranson" or "<blank> wants you" or "yes i want you" to me. But I think anyone who heard it would come up witha different answer for what it sounds like.

Well, I just got a confirmed solve on this.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Thinking along the lines of the sound and listening to SteveC's applet I thought it sounded a bit like some sort of old telephone speech.

Now the first thing said on the telephone by Alexander Graham Bell was "Come here Watson, I need you" and the sound on SteveC's applet sounds a bit like "Mr Watson"

Which I tried and can confirm as the answer I had accepted.
