I'm not editing this^ post anymore Rolling Eyes

So, I don't think that the numbers are right. Here's why: there are rows of 4, 5, and 6 right in the middle. Now, the columns that have 9 and 10 are spread out too far (over 10 squares) to connect them with those 4, 5, and 6 (they'd have to be more like 10s in order for that to work). And no matter how far up or down you move the 10 column, it will still always cover the 4, 5, and 6. It is impossible to have blank spaces in those rows, because then the 9 column won't fit.

Any ideas?

The alt text to images is from these songs:

"and when it lands will my eyes be closed or open?"
Hyper Ballad, Bjork

"And I ran my hand over a strange inversion as the darkness turns into the dawn"
The Child Is Gone, Fiona Apple

"Our souls are a myriad of wars, and I'm losing every one"
This Alone Is Love, A-Ha

"One of these days you can cast aside your human, be free"
Poor Skeleton Steps Out, Xtc

I'm not sure how I managed not to do this last night (I thought I tried everything), but here's what we were supposed to do:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
take 9th, 5th, 10th, and 12th word of the song quotes respectively: closed, hand, etc. to get, for example, closed.jpg

Put them together, and you get "noblest" - http://www.glitterbook.com/walls/noblest.html

Ok, so, Krystyn, thank you for the entertainment, nostalgia and wonderful words... and thanks also for pointing me to Momo, which I started reading once, about 14 years ago, and never got around finishing... I will certainly pick it up again!

Great job on the trail!

krystyn,

thanks for the trail, and for Dina... and for Scratch, and for Mu - for the the 957th time! You are great. Please make another game... pleeeeez

Also, I have two questions: why is the directory called "walls"? and what is the water and the machinery stuff in her dream?

I am a little surprised that a Mu player had to ask why a Dina-themed puzzle would be in a directory called "walls"!

The sound of water and machinery was meant to evoke Dina's existence in the real world, as a copper-top. The bonus nightmare where she can't hear the woman speaking was meant to strengthen the idea that the barrier between her matrix self and her reality was thinning. For a short while, she was able to hear the sounds outside herself - the liquid in her pod, the machines working busily around her, and found herself deaf to 'programmed' ideas of sound.

the stuff about listening on the last page is new, too (the general idea was that this was a glimpse of Dina's thought processes while reading a really good book, namely, Momo), but the lion's share of the text on the pages were recycled, to a certain extent.

Thanks so much for playing, you guys. Felt good to flex the puzzly muscles again, it did, it did. There's um, still room for winners, btw. In case you were wondering.

I'd like to thank ThaJinx again for his assistance on this trail. His illustrations were particularly cool and charming, and totally what I wanted.

Don't be surprised: I wanted to confirm that what I thought was correct, but I didn't want to steer your answer with my guess/explanation of the "why" Smile

Although, I admit that, in addition, I wanted to entertain my ego with a possible connection to that maze we made for you (with the river and the walls) in the Oct. 1 tribute thing Smile Note how this is not a question, so please don't answer it - I would like my ego and its illusions to stay right where they are, thanks Mr. Green

Oh no no no -- you will not get away that easily.

Yes, walls is meant to evoke that particular portion of the tribute, as well. Absolutely. That particular puzzle was haunting and beautiful, so yeah, this felt a little like a tribute to the tribute.

Also:

*cough*
