After this past weekend, I've gone from exclusive A-R-G to a mixture of the two. In other words, I was equally influenced by both Michael and Adrian

Jamesi, would that then be a Ergh?
I never knew it was pronounced a different way. I was most suprised by the Receda cube. And actually, before I called it the "Reh-CHEE-Da" Cube. Cause it sounds like something you could eat.

It never occured to me that it would be pronounced anything other than "arg", until I actually heard someone say "A-R-G". It sounded weird and wrong. Stop it.

And while we're at it, feel free to slap the person sitting next to you if they actually say "O M G" in the course of a conversation. Make it count.

If you, like me, have to explain ARG-ing to non-English speaking people, you'll quickly decide on A-R-G, for "argh" will more often than not provoke wearily-painful grimaces, questions such as "Are you sure you are all right?" and the occasional Heimlich maneuver.
But then again, these also happen when I try to explain the game without even mentioning "ARG".

Oh, that happens in English too, trust me. I tend to walk them up to it ... first it's "alternate reality gaming" then it's "aye-are-gee" then it's "argh!" and then it's "those pernicious lies filling the Internet."

People pronouncing ARG as "urgh" = 12. Now they're just being awkward

It all depends on context. If I'm talking about a game or the genre, I say argh. If I'm mentioning a certain meta-site, I say Ay-Arr-Gee-En. If I'm explaining it to a newbie, I say Alternate Reality Gaming.

That's exactly what I do as well. Also, if I'm discussing a current game in, say, a presentation, I will usually initially say "Perplex City, a new Alternate Reality Game..." and then in later discussion may refer to it either by name or by 'argh'.

Also, you simply must use "argh" when you say "This Is Your Brain on Argfest." 'Cause ARG just wouldn't sound so cool
