www.omnifam.org is up and running. It was registered May 2nd, 2004. "Volunteering" takes will get a response with login and password information which brings you to a crossword (1940's Bletchley's Codebreakers base) to solve. Responses after solving include an email from nooneSPLATomnifam.org.

Also, a new member joined the Yahoo group AWP (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aliaswebpuzzle) under the ID omnifam2000 and uploaded a file with the omnifam logo as a jpeg image.

update to Omnifam (coming soon?)

I noticed that Omnifam put up a press release earlier this month, hinting at something new coming on May 5, 2005

http://www.omnifam.org/press20050407.php

Quote:
Omnifam announced today that it will begin the roll out of the Worldwide Aid Response Network (WARN) in the next few weeks. ... The system begins trials on May 5, 2005 with activation of a select group of volunteers.

(you didn't see me just ask about username/password logins, really)

E-Mail on 5/5

I go this email from "operator@omnifam.org" with the subject "Welcome to Omnifam".

Quote:
Operatives:

Thank you for volunteering. I realize that for many of you, it has been a long time since you offered your services. You have generously set aside your own personal comfort and safety to assume a selfless commitment on behalf of those less fortunate.

As you know, Omnifam exists to render assistance worldwide to people of all colors, creeds, and faiths who have suffered tragic loss. The need has never been greater than it is right now. Fortunately, our resources are plentiful and our programs are well funded.

What most people don't realize is that our humanitarian mission extends beyond the obvious. Our long term goal is to foster scientific thought and research to eliminate the primary sources of human misery. By attacking disease and poverty at its core, someday we hope to provide global equality and universal opportunities for prosperity

We write to you today in the hope that your share our vision. To accomplish our mission, we seek the contributions of only the brightest and most resourceful individuals. Our value and our success depend upon the human capital we can attract to our programs and efforts. Consequently, we don't extend invitations to everyone. We select individuals based on demonstrations of merit. To continue with Omnifam, you must demonstrate your dedication and ability. You will find what you need to continue at omnifam.org. Upon successfully entering the next level of Omnifam, you will be granted access to additional resources and briefed on how and when we intend to proceed. May you find success in this simple test.

With Greatest Regards,

Abraham Lessig

It's on like Donkey Kong, folks.

Omnifam game begins

A lot of people are already on the case over at the Yahoo!Group of JoeysPizza.

Go to the Omnifam home page, where they announce that "WARN Enters Testing Phase", and view the html source. This leads you to:

My assumption is that this will give us a login for the site. (Reminds me of the Paintover puzzles from MetaUrchins.)

p.s., I'll hang out in #omnifam for now. Was there a traditional chat room for previous rounds of this game?

Anyone been able to identify this guy?
I tried a bunch of possibs with no luck.... but he looks vaguely familiar.

ETA
I think it's likely Nostradamus. The clothing/hat fits, as does the beard and items he's holding (including the compass?). I just haven't been able to locate the exact portrait yet. It also fits in with the grave images overlaying the portrait.

Now regular ones I can do, but my brain just doesn't work with this type.

Interesting to note that:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
This particular puzzle was published in 1942. If a solver could complete it in 12 minutes, the solver would be considered for a post at Bletchingly, the UK war-time code-cracking establishment.

And the only ref I could find:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Mentioned only two answers but didn't say which numbers they were....so good luck.
I believe 32A is "lame dogs" and 5D is "horde"

The crossword puzzle has been on the site for quite some time (at least since Mon Jun 21, 2004 when it was mentioned at the start of this thread) -- the Yahoo!Group "joeyspizza" has a screenshot of the filled grid, although they show HORSE instead of HORDE. (PM me if you'd like the answers.)

I think the image is all about Leonardo DaVinci. The 6 small overlay pictures are from various sketches done by him -- or at least they *appear* to be. I did a Google Image search and found most of them, but with slight differences here and there. Even the large portrait is *almost* like a self-portrait he did. Within the Alias show mythology, Rambaldi is like an uber-daVinci. People in joeyspizza have been trying various combinations of Rambaldi lore words.

Embarassed

I guess I saw it in my inbox and just assumed it was new......

And haven't yet been accepted by the mod at JP (although I believe I joined ages ago, I may have deleted that group at some point)

It seems we were both right! :) Joeyspizza has it posted with a spoiler alert -- but they have it with uppercase letters, which is wrong.

I would also catherwood.

Also, there is a messaging system where you enter the message ID number to retrieve the message. I decided to try 47 and got this:

Quote:
Message 47
To: Benjamin Simpson
From: Michael Keller
Subject: intercepted email

Hi Ben,

we intercepted this email. Looks like some sort of code, could you guys decrypt it to something useful for us?

---Intercepted email body:

REU6UGtnMDAwN1BsdXM0Nw

---

Cheers, Mike

I ran the encrypted string through lots of converters, and the only one with a coherent response was Base64

It gave:

DE:Pkg0007Plus47

Any ideas?

Just a quick question: Do we see any significance about the address for Omnifam? I'll put this in a spoiler, but i don't think it is.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Himmel is German for heaven. As in, "Mein Gott in Himmel!" Perhaps heaven 819 is some sort of code.

Himmel is the word for road in German. That address was used in the show as well.

Anybody have any ideas about the string? Anyone submitted any <0> reports yets?

Noooo. Strasse is road in German. Actually, it's straBe with the fancy esset, but two of these (s) will work as well. Especially since my keyboard is without the esset key.

I meant that they use Himmell as a word for road (like in English we have road, street, avenue, boulevard, lane, etc.).
