Who should live and who should die? The Balance has decided to saddle us with the godlike responsibility of deciding who lives and who dies.
Balance website wrote:
As horrendous as it may seem, we need a body count.
But we're not mindless murderers. We've decided to give you the choice.
You can keep Amanda Pranciskis alive. All you have to do is give us the command.
We take Amanda. Or we take the other five hostages.
I know you've developed quite an attachment to the lovely Ms. Pranciskis. So I'm aware you may need some time to make this decision.
It's 13:40pm GMT. You have 48 hours. Email the Balance with your decision on Tuesday. Thank you.
There have been several suggestions to date, most frequently that five lives are worth more than one.
However, I believe -- and others have also suggested -- that the PMs gave us two days for a reason, i.e. that there may be a third option in which we can save all six lives.
Please vote here.

/me just getting in, and just finished catching up
Refuse.
The most difficult, yet promising option is the hardest for us to do.
We refuse to decside.
We respond with a line similar to:
Only god has the right to choose who will live and who will die.
Something that makes our stance clear.
From what i've seen of their demands so far, this may be our only way to save them all. Or it may just forse them to choose for us.
Either way, this is our best option.

I concur. But we should be all uppity about it, and complain about how he's throwing his ideals out the window to make headlines, nothing but a power hungry B****** etc etc, we're not going to play god, let the decision be on his conscience etc etc

I agree that we can't make a decision, but I don't think Derby cares much about ideals or whatnot. It's power he wants and he'll get that by killing them - he'll be showing the world and the other Balance members that he's prepared to take action. I don't think playing on his conscience will help.
Truly stumped and just a few minutes to go. We've got to respond - what will we say and who will do it?

I like the idea of telling him that he has to make the choice. If nothing else, it will buy us some time, or give us the PMs' desired outcome. I am happy to send him an email if that is needed.

I'm trying to compose something suitably aggressive-sounding. It's boiling down to , we can't choose, please don't kill them. Pathetic.

suggest you big up the risk that the other balance members will kill him for it. He's giong against their wishes ain't he? Nothing to gain from it blah blah blah. You know the deadline's gone by 25 mins don't you?
Oh dear....... fingers crossed for scripted intervention....

Yes, well aware of that, and also of the fact that the intranet's not been updated yet, maybe they're waiting for our response. I'm going to try the old 'going against the wishes of the balance' thing but I think he's running the show now so don't think it'll help.
Really don't know what we're supposed to do.

We will not be forced into making a choice between one life and five. You seem to think that killing the six will bring you publicity and show the world your power – without considering the option that it will expose your group as a bunch of violent thugs. I repeat, we will not give into blackmail. As your own rules dictate, it is not up to us to play God, to decide the fate of others. By taking the lives of these people you will achieve nothing other than proving you are no true member of the Balance.
