5/4 Dale's back ^^

Quote:
Finally, I have some great news you can share with everybody. Dale is back. He showed up at my house in the middle of the night, after I had gone to sleep. My last trip to Wes' and to check Dale's house shortly after midnight was the same as all the earlier ones - Wes' shop was still being watched and there was no sign of Dale or any "guides" at the ruins of Dale's house. I came home fully intending to write another set of e-mails but feel asleep on my couch instead. (It seems I'm pretty much running on empty these days.) At some point, I think it was between 2:00 and 3:00am, I woke up when I thought I heard someone trying to get in my door. I wasn't really sure if I was awake or dreaming until I heard Dale's voice saying, "Sam . . . Sam." Then I jumped up and found Dale, looking pale and exhausted, at my door. I barely had time to get him inside my house and onto the couch before he passed out. He's been sleeping ever since. I'm obviously no doctor, but he seems to be breathing OK and he doesn't have any visible wounds or anything, so I'm hoping I'm safe in assuming he just needs some rest. I don't really know where I could take him or who I could call at this point anyway. I mean, Greatwater General isn't really an option at this point.

I finally got some rest too, and it actually seems to have done some good. Maybe it was just the relief of seeing Dale safe that allowed me to get some good sleep, I don't know. Anyway, I'm going to get myself together here and go check out Wes' shop soon. I'm figuring that the "dead eyes" won't be there in the daytime, or will at least be a lot more hesitant to interfere. Of course, I'm a little hesitant myself to leave Dale here alone, but so far, I haven't seen signs of anyone watching or messing with my home so I'm confident it's only a small risk. I'll try to be back as quickly as possible anyway, after trying out some of the new safe combination suggestions people have e-mailed me. And looking around a little for anything else that might help. In any case, I knew you would want to know the good news. I'm going to try and e-mail as many people as I can but please help spread the word to those I miss. I think everyone out there deserves to know as soon as possible for all their
hard work and help.

Sam

Well that's good news!

....but am I the only one who feels like we missed something on this little "Dale" excursion? Like maybe something we were supposed to accomplish but didn't? Or has it just been a rather slow week? I know lots has been happening "plot-wise", but our end of it seemed to be either slow this week or like I said, maybe we didn't pick up on something. But then again, I suppose if we didn't pick up on something the PMs would find a way to point that out, wouldn't they?

We were entertained by Sam's emails on the night of the 30th while we were decoding the seekers email on how to get Dale back (i.e. sending Sam & Wes to gather the proper wood to burn it at Dale's home).

Then we get the email from Digitalis on May 1 and learn of the disappearence of Wes. Some googling based on the email led us to some ideas but no new mythosphere web page.

On May 2 we get the safe combination puzzle via a note left by Wes.

So, what is there for us to still do?
1) is there a hidden message and more mythosphere.org pages from the Digitalis message? Or is it more about the "numbered ones" from AGP - should we be looking closer at DP Hunter?
2) we have to help Sam get into Wes' safe.
3) now we have the start of the online auction this afternoon.
4) the Mayor's new message on the Aglaura page - he's sounding a bit defensive; about what????

Phew! Lots going on after a slow week (during the ARGFest). Razz

I certainly didn't mean to infer that nothing went on this week. I only said that I (expressing an opinion) felt that we may have missed something. Somehow from the things I read leading up to Dale's trip I felt there would be more "to the trip" than there was. That's all...only an opinion. Very Happy

Rant: Feel like acting childish right now:-)

I'm not sure when this became a free for all as far as putting others down, no matter how subtle (or for poor loveli, not so subtle), but I wish it would stop.
I'm sorry I'm new at this too. I was having fun and was enjoying learning new things. But right about now, I'm fed up. I'm afraid to post anything for fear of being put down. I thought this was a great place to come and learn and share, but now.....
And for another person, great, you've solved a lot. And I for one appreciate it and am impressed. But quit being so mean and acting like only your posts count. This is for all of us. Or so I thought.
Oops, I forgot to sign in. This is Myssfitz. Flame away. And please feel free to move this to the right thread. Confused

All I can say, gently, is that we should try to give each other the benefit of the doubt whenever we can. It's way too easy for short, to the point posts to come off sounding mean or condescending when that wasn't necessarily their intent at all.

Liberal use of emoticons also can help! Very Happy

I agree. I don't know what the intent of the posts were, but it is often hard to understand what the intent and emotion behind the comments are without the little smiley guys. (My husband and I learned this the hard way after getting in a few email fights) Laughing Very Happy Shocked Wink

Agreed about the smilies, I even added one above.

Simply put, with all of the hullabaloo leading up to Dale's trip, I was left with the impression that we would have to do more than gather wood. That's all.

I understand the PMs have been busy in other areas and that there are many facets to this game and that some weeks will be busier plot wise and others puzzle wise.

Not sure exactly how this got turned into a debate....but I'm dropping it.
The last thing I want is bad feelings on the board over absolutely nothing.

one little trick i've learned is to read everything with a smile. take things in the lighthearted manner that they were, most likely, intended.

Online communication can be very bland, there's no body language or facial expressions to help out. There are also people from all over and they have different humor. The harsh humor of a New Yorker can really frighten someone from the midwest. Knowing dmax and ad as I do, I heard the humor in their replies to loveli. At the same time, it was easy to see how they could be taken a different way. Sarcasm is touchy, especially when it's online.

So, when reading, read with a smile and when writing, try rereading it and add a smiley or change a word or two if you think someone may take your banter as something a bit more serious.

All and all, we're a good group of people. One of the best groups i've come across online. Not only are there very few trolls (maybe 1 out of 500, not a bad ratio), but people can be very supportive and helpful. At least that has been my experience.

OT

Thanks, imbri. It would be easy to mistake my stuff as abrasive and mean. Truly, it's just abrasive. Smile

I apologized. If I want to flame someone, they typically know it.

That said, I'm finding that it's hard to criticize anyone somedays. I recently gave extraordinarily negative feedback to one of my colleagues (it's my job. I'm his supervisor) and I was met with ALL these responses: "You're a bad supervisor." "You have bad support staff." "I had a bad first day here - two years ago." "It's because I don't have blue eyes." "It's because I don't kowtow to you." "It's because I work the wrong shift." and, my favorite, "I'm better trained than you and you KNOW it." There's a polite way to tell someone that something went wrong, and it has to be said sometimes. The issue is how it's said, and that's the thing worth modifying.

So, I sincerely apologize for what was taken as rude. I'll be more cognizant of stuff like that. I can change, I swear. Wink

Sorry

Sorry that I started something. I am usually more tough skinned. I can take and give sarcasm like the next person. Just a bad day and unfortunately, you guys got it.
Next time I feel like acting childish, stupid, and immature, I'll bite my tongue. And I will also go about it privately and not announce things to the whole board. (However, there won't be next time. Let it roll, Urs)
Again, I am sorry. And I will drop the subject.

Hello Smile I for one just want to work together on this thing. The only reason it was taken the wrong way, is because I'm new. So I don't know everyone on here well enough to know if they are being sarcastic, mean, or just joking around. I wasn't as offended as it may have sound, I mean this is only a MB. hehe. I hope everyone understands that Smile Have a wonderful day! *officially dropped*

*Drives a stake through its heart, cuts off its head, and then fills the latter with garlic.*
