[SPEC] [QUESTION] Tech Talk

Just a thought that came to me as we were discussing the whereabouts of the cube...

We still have little idea what the mysterious technology, Klebold Plates and Reynolds Ioniser, found at the Five of Cups, can be used for.

Given that Kurt is a self - confessed techno geek, I was wondering if we might consider asking him (without giving the game away as to *why* we want to know obviously...).

This might be a complete dead - end, or a dead giveaway. On the one hand, if a Klebold Plate, say, is a very regular piece of tech, then Kurt might be happy enough to give us a lowdown. If, on the other hand, it's the sort of thing that only gets used in extensive radiation shielding (or something), then he might start to wonder where we're getting information from.

And, equally, he might not have the first clue what we're talking about.

I just thought it was worth a quick canvassing - although given the success we had with Violet and the library, maybe not...

I'd ask him, though I suspect that may fall under the "classified information I can't talk about" section. I'm sure he saw the article after reviewing the Earth Sentinel and would understand our interest... even if he is part of the conspiracy...

yeah...just go for it, the worst that can happen is that he spends a night in jail (no deaths on our collective conscience yet...who'll be the first I wonder...hmmm Idea )

I'm not sure that The Sentinel ever released the classified information about *what* the police had found at the Five of Cups. We gained the insight because we read the Salk Logs, and Pietro had it from his personal police contacts. Whether they would have wanted him to report on such a find directly is an open question.

The sentinel article only talks in general terms about some "jury-rigged equipment which ... could be used to jam keys, security systems, or driverless vehicles." That was noteworthy at the initial report because of This other article which talks about a guy dying in a car wreck. So no, only pietro knew about the kleibold plates. And he dismisses their use entirely as having anything to do with any such security systems.

We could ask Kurt what a kleibold plate is used fFor, which will yield one of 3 results:

1) he ignores our cries. The Bastard. Just Like everyone else. The bastards.
2) he actually tells us. That would be a landmark fFirst in which we get a straight answer out of *anyone*.
3) he asks why we want to know, stirring up quite a bit of dust.

That last one is particularly interesting because it would mean we actually get *any* sort of interaction out of anyone in whole city. character interaction: what a concept, huh.

so i guess what i'm saying is i'm fFor it. Let's ask. Better yet, let's not just ask, but let's lay our cards on the table to where he cannot ignore our advances.

Actually, I tried to do this last night and, for some reason, my e - mail connection didn't seem to work...so someone else may have to do it on my behalf! Grrrrr...

[It's something to do with the automatic Outlook response not recognising my server - I tried to send the same message via my yahoo account, but then the address didn't seem to register !!...]

So, it might be worthwhile if someone else can offer to do the honours...tactfully, of course Smile

Email sent! Not that I've had any luck getting responses from anyone, but the question is out there now. Smile

Could you post a copy of the email you sent?

I generally do not keep copies of my sent emails, sorry about that.

Basically, I just said that I understood that he couldn't give us details about any PxC tech, but we were curious as to what the Klebold plates and Reynolds ionizers mentioned in Pietro's files are used for, and that any info he could pass along would be highly appreciated. Simple, straightforward. Probably not as tactful as y'all would like, I'm sure, but seeing as I've never received an answer to any of the questions that I've sent to various characters, I figured that straightforward couldn't hurt. *blinks incredulously* Well, imagine that...I got an answer back! Shocked Complain publicly and ye shall receive, I suppose. Laughing

First, my original message (yay for replies with originals attached!)

zaeil wrote:
Kurt--

A bunch of us have a little question for you regarding something we picked up from Pietro Salk's files. I know you can't divulge much about Perplexian technology, but we're curious--what is a Klebold plate? What is it used for? Same question in regards to a Reynolds ionizer, as well.

Like I said, we understand that you can't be specific, but even just a general idea is more than we have now!

Thank you for any help you can give.

Sincerely,
Stacy

The response:

Kurt McAllister wrote:
Hi Stacy,

Unfortunately, I don't think I can help you. I don't actually know what a Klebold plate or a Reynolds ionizer is - they sound like very specialised pieces of technology, and I haven't heard of them before, so your guess is as good as mine right now. Even if I *did* know what they did, I still wouldn't be able to help you, what with the technology transfer rules.

Kurt

I wrote back, but I doubt I'll hear anything else.

zaeil wrote:
Kurt-

I certainly didn't expect a direct response! Thank you. We figured VERY specialized--these were articles found by police at The Five of Cups--and hoped that you might provide some general information. Certainly a little bit of info as to what a piece of tech does wouldn't be against the transfer rules? We still wouldn't know how these objects worked, or even what they looked like, and we certainly don't have the means to replicate them.

Anyway, thanks again. I'm sure the crew will appreciate the response. Smile

-Stacy

Yah...and as I was writing this up, I got a response:

Kurt McAllister wrote:
Stacy,

I will have a look into what those pieces of tech might do, but I can't promise anything, and if I do find anything then I'll only be able to give you a *very* general answer.

Cheers,

Kurt

And I wrote him back again...

zaeil wrote:
Kurt,

Thank you so much! As I said before, even a *very* general answer will be more information than we have now. If you find anything out, please let us know.

-Stacy

So there you go. If I hear anything else from him, I'll post it here.

Good stuff. Highly specialised material sounds pretty promising as a lead...

Whether we get much more insight into it at this point is, I guess, another issue.

Let's hope we hear from Kurt about the Klebold plates and such . . .

/me awards a shiny gold medal with red ribbons and tassles to zaeil, in honour of being the recipient of ACTUAL interaction!

Embarassed I must have missed the part where they mentioned they couldn't describe their technology to us "Earthlings"...

where was that said?
