Samantha's Article

The one thing that jumped out for me was the mentioning of Simone's education... she has a major in Russian studies?! Is it just a coincidence that Peter, Sam's husband, is working in Russia right now? I wonder what will come of that...

Some of the reactions to the article Sam got in her mail were intriguing, mostly Don's, because although I can imagine he feels rather betrayed, he seems to be overreacting.

I don't think he was overreactive - he was expecting an expose, not an article talking about how charming the cult leader was!

Don not overreacting

I agree that he should be upset. As I read the article, I was upset that it wasn't more critical of the cult. When Sam mentioned that she liked the new Lisa better than the old, I felt anger on behalf of Lisa's parents. It was like saying that all of this has been good for her, and we should all encourage our daughters to sign up. If she had mentioned their safe sex policy in the article it would only have seemed to give more legitimacy to Simone's 'philosophy'.

Well, yes, ofcourse, but let me correct myself: he is not so much overreacting by being angry, as he is by saying he wants nothing to do with her anymore. That's rather harsh, if only because he is breaking contact with the only one that has been in contact with his daughter recently...

She characterized him pretty harshly, though. She said he barked, and played him at odds with the beatific retreat she encountered when she met Simone.

She made him look the fool. I wouldn't appreciate that much if I were him, in spite of her grudging acknowledgments that his daughter was likely involved in some sort of cult.
