Perhaps we're all forgetting the staple of a Cube Hunter's diet:

1. Remove plastic wrapping.
2. Insert in crisping sleeve.
3. Microwave on HIGH for 1-1.5 minutes.
4. Enjoy.

You all know what I'm talking about.

You're trying to reveal some sort of message on a card aren't you...

I recently discovered the best comfort food in the world...it's finger-licking rib-sticking good:

1 packet of gnocchi (don't bother making your own)
1 big wedge of Dolcelatte or Gorgonzola (or other soft smelly blue cheese)
1 packet of pre-washed ready prepared do nothing Rocket
1 red grapefruit
1 tub double cream
1 box of cadbury's cream eggs (3 or 6)
2 bottles of gut rotting red wine and a bottle of coke

1, Boil gnocchi (follow instructions on pack)
2, Meanwhile open Rocket packet (follow instructions on pack)
3, Peel grapefruit and chop into lumps (follow instructions on...oh, you'll just have to freestyle this bit)
4, Mix Rocket and grapefruit together (resulting in a side salad)

5, Put drained and cooked (hopefully) gnocchi in an oven proof dish, pour over the cream and break lumps of cheese into it, savouring the squidgyness and gorgousity; bung this in the oven for a bit, until cheese melted.

6, Mix Coke and gut rotting red wine together half and half (must be the worst wine in a plastic bottle you can find otherwise it doesn't work), add ice if you like (resulting in a drink, calimocho)

The gnocchi go creamy gooey sticky lovely and the salad goes zingy crunchy peppery lovely.

Serving suggestion:

Best eaten on a sofa (it works on a cheap red Ikea sofa, with cheese stains), in front of a feel good film (Amelie) with a friend having half, or on the aforementioned sofa in front of something else (Dawn of the dead? Fargo? Theatre of Blood?...something which causes glee at some level), without a friend and scoff the lot.

Cream eggs are desert

/me now very hungry

Okay, the article has been sent, but do keep the recipes coming - I also inquired as to the possibility of starting an Earth recipes column as sort of an adjunct to View from Earth (the proposed name being Food from Earth)

Even if they don't bite, it's still nice to learn what other Cube Hunters are chowing down on.

Saying things like that, I'd guess you've never had a bambus/kalimoxto. <shudder>

I'm sort of partial to this recipe:
Aunt Margaret wrote:
Bee-licious Chocolate Chip Cookies

makes 16 cookies

1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup butter
6 oz chocolate chip morsels
1 egg
2 cups flour
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup pecans
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Combine honey, peanut butter, butter and brown sugar in a large bowl; beat until light and fluffy—at least two minutes. Add egg and vanilla; mix thoroughly. Combine flour, soda and salt; mix well. Stir into peanut butter mixture. Stir in chocolate morsels and pecans. Using a 1/4 cup measure for each cookie, drop onto ungreased cookie sheet; flatten slightly. Bake at 350°F 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to rack and cool.

Seriously. The civilization without Rice Krispies Treats is the civilization about to crumble from within.

Rice Krispies

Are Rice Krispies Treats technically baked goods and should go into that column? I am saving some of my best recipes for that. Smile Laughing

Gotta have ANZAC Biscuits
mmmmmmmm

ANZAC Biscuits

1 cup rolled oats
1 cup plain flour
1 cup sugar
3/4 (three-quarters) cup coconut
125g (4 oz) butter
2 tablespoons golden syrup
½ (half) teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1 tablespoon boiling water
Combine oats, sifted flour, sugar and coconut.
Combine butter and golden syrup, stir over gentle heat until melted.
Mix soda with boiling water, add to melted butter mixture, stir into dry ingredients.
Take teaspoonfuls of mixture and place on lightly greased oven trays; allow room for spreading.
Cook in slow oven (150°C or 300°F) for 20 minutes.
Loosen while still warm, then cool on trays.
Makes about 35.

FLAMINGO STEW

Flamingoes are not easy to find outside Africa, except in zoos. But your guests will appreciate the effort and you can do all sorts of exiting things with the plumage.

Pluck and gut a flamingo.
Place in a pan with water, aniseed, salt and a little vinegar, and boil.
When half cooked, add a bunch of chives and coriander leaves tied in a bundle.
Towards the end of the cooking, add some boiled wine to give it colour.
Take a pestle and mortar and grind some pepper, cumin, coriander, laser root, mint and rue.
Add vinegar, dates and some of the cooking broth, then pour the mixture into the pan.
Thicken the sauce with starch, then serve.
You can also use the same recipe for parrot

Seasoned Pork Bites

Ingredients:
-As much diced pork as you think you can eat - around 200g-300g per person
-Roughly 50g plain flour
-Black pepper
-Cayenne Pepper
-Salt
-Paprika
-Roughly 20g Margarine

1. First, mix the pepper, salt and paprika into the flour. Around a teaspoon of each should be enough but if you want a bit more of a kick then add some more.

2. Melt your margarine in a frying pan. You could alternatively use cooking oil but I find that's a bit too greasy.

3. While the pan is heating up, take your flour/pepper mix and your pork and put the whole lot into a plastic bag (sandwich bag/freezer bag/etc.), close the bag, and give it all a good shake until your pork is covered in seasoning. This bit is fun.

4. Now take the pieces of pork out of the bag and put them into the pan, which should be nice and hot by now. Fry for approximately 5 mins or until the seasoning has gone all golden-brown and lovely. The flour tends to absorb the melted margaine so you may need to add a little bit more at first. After a minute or two the meat releases some of it's own fat so that helps. Your pan shouldn't be swimming in oil.

5. Take out of the pan and serve.

These can be eaten on their own as a snack, served with mixed veg of your choice (I like to cheat and just defrost some frozen veg, or slice some mixed peppers and fry them at the same time), other meats can be sustituted for the pork (alter your wine choice accordingly, but using pork I find it goes well with a Beaujolais or light Merlot), and if you want to vary the seasoning then go right ahead.

If you're serving this dish to impress/seduce someone then remember to go easy on the pepper (and a 2L tub of ice-cream for dessert is always a winner Wink ).
