Summary about cards

Can someone write a simple, short summary covering what we know about the cards generally? And then post it in the card section as a sticky post?

Maybe this would help new people follow along and lessen the posting of redundant information. I don't feel I know enough about the cards to do it myself.. Here is a start:

*The puzzle cards are available from 8 (or 9) stores worldwide and from firebox on-line. They cost $5 for a pack of 6 cards.

* There are a total of 256 cards (plus possibly some limited edition cards) right now 66 of them have been released.

* Each card has a number, a title, a color (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, black and silver) and a set ( hex, star, pixel, circle, maze, [and assuming things remain consistent, three others]).

* Each card indicates the number of perplex points it is worth and the set it belongs to in the upper right hand corner. [About points - we don't know how they work yet, only that there will be a leaderboard to enter a card's unique code and the solution to that card's puzzle.]

* The color indicates the difficulty of the puzzle and how rare the card is. Silver foil cards are the most rare -- about 1 per 10 packs -- and the most difficult.

* Some of the cards have been treated with special inks so that not all the writing is immediately visible to the naked eye. These inks may appear under heat, sunlight, black light, etc. Do NOT heat foil cards in the microwave.

* Some of the card have a suit (spade, diamond, heart, club) and number of a standard playing printed in the lower left corner. These cards have what appears to be pieces of large letters printed in light grey ink on them. So far, the numbers of the cards that contain playing card marked on them are prime numbers.

* The backs of cards that are yellow and above contain pieces of a map of Perplex City.

Rose, I made a couple of edits to your post to clarify a few facts. That is a good, concise list of all of the "meta" facts about the cards.

You might also want to add that the playing card suits have, so far, appeared on the prime numbered cards. And add a link to http://www.perplexcity.com/howtoplay.html where more is explained about the cards, and where to get them on http://www.perplexcity.com/buycards.html

move the above post?

BriEnigma: I made your edits and added Driz jrs. links - I didn't quite understand the point about the cards with suits only being prime numbers, so I left that out.

If you can find a spot to put this on the board that will be most helpful to new players- please move it there!

And, taking full advantage of the no trout policy of this part of the board...

I think the list of resources is great in the New Players section, but I am all about easily accessable, brief summaries of important facts. Is there a similar list of websites found so far? Or a very brief summary of the story? I haven't had time to check all the resources myself - just getting into the card collecting is my major involvement in this game so far. But maybe someday I can get a cool avatar like you guys have from the Sentinel . Smile

Summary of websites - sorry if redundant

ok - I didn't find this on the forums anywhere - only on off-site resources that a new player may not find... am I wrong about that? If so, sorry. Just trying to gather basic resources right here in a simple way to present them directly on this forum.

If you think it is better to just send new players to the blog, then maybe we need to find a clear way to do that? Right now, it is just in a list with other resources.

I think the wiki and all the other player resources are fantastic, but way too much information overload for someone (like me!) just starting to test the waters at PPC. And the primer is from the syzygy part of the game -not updated.

Comments? Ideas? Suggestions?

thanks

ok - thanks for the link to the quick reference, but, is that where beginners are directed to go? I didn't find it, obviously, though I went to the beginners links.. Then again, I have never claimed to be good at navigating or searching these forums, so I may be the worst case example.

Also - are those threads updated?

My idea, as I said, is to make finding the most basic information as simple as possible.
