Plausible, but I think I've done my share for today...
Maybe I'll find some more time tomorrow. Let someone else try it for now.

Hi, this is your friendly neighborhood strifey. Keep going! GIF files start off with GIF(somenumber). Whatever crap you decode it to, place it in a text file, then rename it so its a gif rather than a file. Walla, instant removal of dutch poison...so KEEP IT UP Smile

Apologies, I didn't make full sense. So I'll explain better...GIF files look like "GIF89a T $6ا( /Ú- /Ù-9 $ / $5 8HO"q$V*0yn,xn,r7Uxm,"...aka crap. Similar to what you're getting. So finish the decryption, take the junk, save it in notepad or something, then change the extension so its a .gif. Open in your favorite picture opener program. Instant satisfaction and groupies on your puzzle solving skills. Do it for the groupies Smile

Thanks strife!!!

Sleepin' - I'd finish the decoding for you, but I still don't get how you converted the number to binary and then the binary to text. Using that website, I converted the number to binary and when I convert it back, I just get the number again. There's something in there that I'm missing, but I don't know what.

Just out of (unrelated) curiosity, if this is related to Omnifam, why isn't this in the Omnifam forum?

Because we needed help of experienced puzzle solvers that wouldn't necessarily go into the Omnifam forum.

Hmm. Now that they're (presumably) aware of it, shouldn't it go back there?

And where is Giskard when we need him? He must be on vacation. This is PRECISELY why we have him around. To translate all those Dutch clues we get. Laughing Hee.

(and Ladylovelocks - I wouldn't put it past a devious swedish puzzler to try the same thing, but expect us to figure out poison=gift->but no tea for you -> gif, or something equally horrid. At least this provides an exact word!)

Well, as I had not been following Omnifam at all, and this thread looked way too difficult for me, I never really gave the "Dutch poison" any thought, so, sorry, but yeah, poison = gif Smile (and yes, that is a much more obvious translation than vergiftigen, at least from this side of lingual barrier...)

Ofcourse, a complimentary translation/Dutch puzzle solving service for those uncountable Dutch clues is only a PM away Wink

Alright, so I was thinking that this is going to take FOREVER AND A DAY (or two) and there must be some way to speed this up a bit. Thankfully, we have that spreadsheet! Wohoo! I've attached the spreadsheet, with some work done on it. I'm not sure quite what I need to do to fully automate it, but this should help move things along. I've named the new tabs "Test1", "Test2," and "Test3." "Test1" converts the values from the "Combined" tab into decimal, "Test2" adds the pairs together, and "Test3" converts those values into binary. I don't know how to convert the binary into text or whatever - I can only see how it converts it right back to decimal. It's not as pretty as the original file, but it gets the job done. So yeah, now we should just have to convert the binary to text, eh? http://nickciske.com/tools/binary.php here I come! And hopefully, this spreadsheet will prove a bit more accurate than doing every step by hand. Oh, and feel free to double check my cells! Thanks guys, and a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone that helped us get this far! I think we were all going nuts on this one...

I wasn't sure if I should edit the previous post, or repost my current working spreadsheet, so I picked reposting. Here's the updated version. On the last tab, the yellow cells are the ones I've translated. The pattern is a cell with binary, and the translation in the next cell. I can't take any more! That, and it's bed time. Good luck guys!
