Well, if we want information, we should probably be careful to ask the right questions. What makes you think this verse's questions are in English?

Dong ma?

FYI, the "Paul Probo" email address being targetted here is in fact the same one that places like IFILM have been hearing from/in communication with. Just got that confirmed.

How did you confirm that? *just curious* *likes all the details*

And yeah, I was worried about not asking the right question. Any suggestions?

Asked the IFILM guy if that's the email address through which he's heard from "Paul Probo" He said that's it.

Well, all I can think of is that querying Probo and Dowses in Mandarin might yield an interesting result.

After all, some of the central planets of the Alliance speak Chinese and curse in English....

I don't speak anything other than English...

And I also don't recall it ever being said in the series that Alliance planets speak mostly mandrin. In fact, Mr. and Mrs. Tam seem to speak English and curse in mandrin.

On that note, I need sleep. Will update the thread if I get further correspondance from Paul.

I'm just working on the theory that those two are in-game, and thus in the Firefly verse, where everyone speaks English and Chinese. Maybe they'd be prepared to let something slip if you ask them nicely in the language they prefer.

I know it's crazy and stupid, but it's a thought that's been bugging me, and I figured I'd mention it for the benefit of any Chinese speakers out there. It's one of those things that are "just crazy enough to work, or make me look twelve kinds of moronic."

Thanks for your work on this, BTW. I've been wracking my brain on this for a week.

Hmm...I'm not convinced that there is any "in-game" to speak of, here. All this seems much more in the viral marketing vein than in ARG territory, and we don't have any evidence that there's any in-game world outside of the clips (heh, and the TV show and the comics and the movie, obviously Mr. Green). I don't know about Paul Probo (although contacting a Summer Glau fansite doesn't strike me as very in-gamey), but John Dowses comes across as another fan who stumbled upon the clip, and not at all like a Fireflyverse person trying to spread the word about the Alliance's evil doings. I'm not saying he's necessarily a "real person"...he may well be a fictional creation, but if he is, it appears that he doesn't exist in the Fireflyverse. That's based on his posting about finding the clip - he said he was searching and found it on Limewire. Sounds present-day Earthy to me.

I would absolutely love to have a Firefly ARG (an official one, even!), but these viral marketing clips are awesome enough in their own right. Session 1 is just heartbreaking.

Something that strikes me as odd about Session 1 - toward the end, River looks away from her interviewer. What's she looking at? It doesn't seem like just a "let me turn my head because I'm thinking about what you just asked me" - I get the feeling there's more to it than that. Especially since River comes right out and tells us the importance of nonverbal communication...

Just a hunch.

I also kinda think that's something, since right before she turns her head, there is a creepy moment where she looks directly at the camera....

There's also a somewhat creepy "dip" in sound right after the interviewer says "You can feel it".

Ah, session 1 is awsome! =D I only hope that someone makes an ARG offa this! I mean, they could manage something like this without video - text transcripts. But if this does turn into an ARG... =D =D =D

EDIT: Both of these videos seem to have come from The Academy. I'm searching around for a site, but I'm short on time here. Just thought I might throw the idea out here to see what others can find. I think an Academy site is the best bet if this is an ARG.

When my sister called me yesterday to say that Dowses had e-mailed her Session one, I so had a Pattern Recognition moment. The way some of the other boards are tearing apart the vids trying to convince themselves if it's fan created or not seem to come directly from the book. I guess William Gibson really does have his finger on the pulse of internet culture.

More on topic, I'm in Omnie's corner. We don't have anything ARGish to work with yet except a couple names. Names of people who seem to not want anything to do with Unf or it's wierd denizens... they don't seem to want anything to do with the clips for that matter. If it does turn out to be an ARG (praying won't help, but I did a bit of it anyway) then there's nothing we can do until they give us something more concrete to work with. We do have the videos to dissect and give up their glory, but being a PXC player for almost a year has taught me a supernatural patience that I can help but transfer to all other things ARGish.

Maybe Dowses or Probo will give up something more, but if you ask me, they don't have much more to give up.
