Wait, is that a copyrighted image, combined with an irritating MIDI soundtrack?! I'm in! WOoOoOoOo!
The domain was registered in 2003. If it's indeed News and/or a Rumor, it's been well hidden.

googling the site brought up these links:
http://www.negativeworld.org/reggiebot.asp
http://www.negativeworld.org/boardreplies.asp
the first one is prolly some test coding..just messing around with javascript and asp to practice his scripting skills. Which furthers my theory on this just being a crazy test site.
but i'll keep looking..
[EDIT]- more links:
http://www.negativeworld.org/images/
http://www.negativeworld.org/sprites/
And check this out:
http://web.archive.org/web/ */http://negativeworld.org
the site has been almost the same ever since it was built.
And its had different quotes and titles written on the page at different times.
Doesnt look like an arg to me yet.. but i guess when i get a reply from the webmaster, we will know.

Prehaps.
Seems there is this character named Reggiebot. Sounds like an anti-nintendo troll/punk if you ask me. But he sees a few clues in the
Quote:
Reggiebot: I bet after the show, Reggie Pulled George Harrison's head off with his bare hands.
It makes a few references to George Harrison. Nintendo's VP of Marketing. (Most gamers have no clue who he is, especially not punk 13 year olds
a little google search on Reggiebot shows a few things. It might just be a random junk if you ask me. An IGN linking that looks dead, and a 13 year old zelda fourm.
It also makes reference to Nintendo's message board, and a marketing reference.
If I didn't know better, I'd make a bet it was an anti-nintendo Viral Marketing site
edit: the main link searches finds some ign profile on 'eightbitguy's sig'
http://users.ign.com/about/eightbitguy?boards=ign
Said guy has a web site that goes to http://www.thejoyofliving.net/ Which takes you to stuff that looks very legit. (live journal junk and too many people to be grassroots)
Confidence is waning on this one.

Got a reply ^^
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The Negative World is many things. The Negative World is nothing. The
Negative Wor... I'm too tired for this.
Hmm.
Basically we just like Nintendo. A lot.

Seems pretty common if you ask me.. But I'm a pessimist when it comes to these things.

Well, if this is related to Nintendo, the only connection to "negative world" that comes to mind is the hidden level in the original Super Mario Bros.

as craze pointed out, archived versions of the site have different quotes on them:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Kidpixel says "Its a secret to everybody..."
Added on 2/21/2004 at 7:50:01 PM.
60 :: 14073
sub210HOT says ""X" never, ever marks the spot."
Added on 5/28/2004 at 9:35:08 PM.
62 :: 15641
Y-Alpha says "And God saw the controller and saw that it was good. And God did separate the old ways from the *new*."
Added on 8/21/2005 at 5:10:20 PM.
81 :: 24962
and this photo: http://www.negativeworld.org/etc/youseemstupidmario.gif
the only person on that list that's popped up is: sub210hot -> Sean Campbell
no point spoilering, if this is a game i dont see how he is connected as such, especially to a post made well over a year ago. and not to mention theres thousands of people with the same nicks. all i have is straws, slippery straws.
i might sit back and watch this one, but im pessimistic abooot it

I am constantly impressed at how much people can read into a website that basically gives you nothing.
If only people spent this much time and effort on games actually playing instead of on sites that show no indication of being an ARG. Because, you know, just because it's in News & Rumors doesn't mean that it is an ARG. Just look at the Spam thread if you don't believe me
