I asked him to quote what international law he is using to claim this. Let's see what he answers.

Those asteroids look suprisingly similar to mookie sticks on black velvet

The emails continue. Anyone have any intel on this "Law" he is refering to?
Nonono... I mean...
Please specify which Law you are refering to. I need the lookup code and exact law text please. If you are certain that this is legal, then I'm sure you have this information handy.

Hi lance_lake,
Thanks for your interest, I own Asteroid 4179 Toutatis because i claimed it in 1996 under the international law Terra Nullius. This law or more aptly "system" was how the British claimed Australia. it has been used here on Earth as late as the 1970's. Now simply put, if you claim land or property that has no claim or ownership on it then it is yours without question. Now the only way my claim on Asteroid 4179 Toutatis can be nullified is if someone were to land on the asteroid and claim it as theirs.
Cheers,
godman777.
Question from eBay Member: Asteroid 4179 Toutatis for sale! (Item # 5507864183)
Dear godman777,
Can you specify what law in international law you are using to lay such a claim? I mean, what law EXACTLY.

Ok, everyone in the Spaceship for a summer trip to Toutatis! With the first private space flight already done, someone landing on "his" asteroid is more likely.

See, here is where you all have made me a little paranoid about every little thing out there on the internet.
Could this be the rabbit hole for the new joint "train the PM" ARG???
If I recall, wasn't there discussion about making it an "outerspace" colony or something?
/me looks over her shoulder for any OE agents with guns.

Terra Nullius is not actually a law per se, but rather a concept that an individual can claim any "empty land" as his own. It is how Australia was claimed by the British (natives not withstanding). The UN ruling would appear to be the 1973 ruling on the Western Sahara by the General Assembly. Interestingly enough, they stated that it was not empty land, however it does imply that would be a valid ruling.

One must not forget the "Outer space treaty" (resolution 2222 (XXI), 1967), however. Article II states "Outer space, including the moon and other celestial bodies, is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty, by means of use or occupation, or by any other means". Although the individual is not a national entity, Article VI continues "States Parties to the Treaty shall bear international responsibility for national activities in outer space, including the moon and other celestial bodies, whether such activities are carried on by governmental agencies or by non-governmental entities, and for assuring that national activities are carried out in conformity with the provisions set forth in the present Treaty..."
But of course, this is just my opinion, it's probably wrong.

no, the images represent letters!
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If you look at them a certain way, the symbols actually look like letters. People in #uf are telling me that you can rotate them 3/4 and something or other, but I didn't get it. But, after sapagoo said that the last three are COM, the rest was easy to figure out...

lol......cool
I actually found the site by taking a look at domainspinner after viewing that profile, but assumed that because it seemed informational rather than in-play, that it was already known.
...and I still can't see the letters either.....must be a "spatial thing".
