Hmm... found something kinda interesting. There seems to be... something (not entirely surehow to explain it).......... oh just look at the attached images.
Edit: This sorta thing can also be seen at the edges of the tree's shadow.
Edit2: Yeah, I know it's most likely nothing, but I just find it strange that there would be compression artifacts when there's nothing else near it (numbers are a separate layer).

1. Originally, Halo was not a first person shooter (little known fact).
2. Rumors are all over the net that Bungie is working on a secret project.
3. Microsoft needs something big to create excitement in Japan.
1: It's a well known fact
2: Devleopers are ~always~ working on their next project. (And it's usually kept fairly sekrit)
3: FPSs (and TPSs for that matter) do not go over well in Japan. The majority of sales in the East go to the RPG and 'weird' category games. (such as horse racing sims etc.)

So is this Halo played with a DDR pad, or DDR played in first person jumping around in time to the music?

Working from memory here but, I believe that back during E3 Gates said they were pushing 360 out for a Christmas Season Ship date.
Trying Beat Playstation 3(Kind of like what happened to them When PS2/Xbox came out) and they were going to Start spilling Stuff on Holo3 around the time of PS3's launch.
But then thats not stoping me from following this like a mad man

I'll give you the first item as clearly it is a well known fact within these circles. However, nothing in my theory suggests that the app would be a 1st person or 3rd person shooter.

I can't believe there will be any kind of large announcement here in Japan on the 27th. Microsquish already has a big press conference on the 15th and then the game show from the 16th to the 18th. This is the second biggest games event outside of E3. I can't see the logic in saving part of you announcement for when most of the foreign (non-Japanese) press has gone home and right in the middle of when the world press is trying to digest the news delivered in the Game Show press conference.

Just putting this idea out there...
What if the "artifacts" in the image that I noticed were because of data being stegged into the background image?

Your point makes good sense. There is no way they would miss making this announcement at either the press conference or during the game show.
Either our interpretation of the countdown timer is incorrect or our belief that tree somehow represents Japan is incorrect. As I seriously doubted that we had misinterpreted the countdown timer, I decided to start with the tree. Maybe I could find something that connected the tree to something other than Japan, another source of information. Turns out I was dead wrong.
It's amazing, even though my intent was to show that tree must have some other meaning, I found something that not only reinforces the connection with Japan, but potentially sheds even more light on the situation.
I present for your review the Japanese Boxtree
Not only is the tree a Bonsai tree, but I believe it is in fact specifically a Japanese Boxtree. I'll let that sink in as you ponder the implications...
So maybe, just maybe, Microsoft will announce something at the press conference or during the games show truly ground breaking. Maybe it will even be the release of the Xbox 360 in Japan on September 27, 2005 (I'm not the first to suggest this).
Want a better picture of the tree or just more information? Go here to see and find out more:

symbol on building I did a search on this, so if this truly was already pointed out I will take my trout with a smile. I know the microsoft store in japan was discussed and was never determined to be related...but did anyone notice the symbol on the corner of the building?

It seems very greek to me, very "origenish".
