 		[Blue Ice] A game as cryptic as ARGs...
I just thought I'd bring this game to your attention... it's what led me to 'armchair treasure hunts', which then led me to ARGs.

A relatively obscure game called 'Blue Ice' was released in Europe. By itself, it's an incredibly surreal point-and-click adventure game. However, the game was originally going to have a large cash prize for the first person who could find 'The Ultimate Solution' to the game... unfortunately, this contest was scrapped at the last minute, as it became aware that people could edit the game files to find it easily.

Every single room in the game had some hidden graphic or meaning, the most obvious of them being grids of numbers in the artwork. Sometimes, seemingly random voice samples played, saying pairs of colours (such as "Red, Blue". All of these things hinted towards finding 'The Ultimate Solution'. There was a large amount of research and cryptography involved, too...

I would explain more, but I wouldn't want to spoil it for people who haven't played it yet. If you don't think you'll ever get around to playing the game though, here's a 'walkthrough' of the ultimate solution, so you can see how similar to ARGs it is...

 		Yeah, and to top it off, it's hard to find now too. A word of caution though, while doing some obsessive hunting for info on the game a while back, I found that there are 'rips' of the game available from not-quite-legal sources.

I also found out that they 'ripped' the speech from the game-- making most of the plot impossible to understand (it's told entirely through voice and artwork, not text), and the cryptic sound-based riddles would also be impossible.


So, unfortunately, you really have to hunt it down these days...
