"Stealing wholesale from Seven Samurai" is sort of a funny way of looking at it. That movie was the freaking origin of so much stuff that's used in hero/action/comedy stories to this day.

Goodness, remind me never to write anything resembling star-crossed lovers, or perhaps anything to do with mistaken identities, gender-bending, or legal hijinx, or I might be accused of stealing wholesale from Shakespeare.

Who, of course, never stole from anyone else.

Hmm. I think you stole wholesale (from somewhere) the phrase "stealing wholesale."

A film in the style of "The Mighty Boosh" would rock so hard. I love that show. Particularly "Old Gregg", his watercolours, his baileys, and his funk. Who would have thought that a green man with seaweed for hair, a heavy moustache and a tutu covering his "mangina" (a vagina on a man) could be so funny?
I love that show. A film would make my life worthwhile.

I too would have to say that a Neuromancer film would rock my world harder than any other film evarz...

While I disagree with the whole way the Matrix was dissed as ripped off Kurasawa, I do think that it was a totally different vein than what Neuromancer is.

Same with Johnny (word I can't spell)... Mind you, the story was way too short to have a full movie treatment without some creative storytelling, the movie was pretty much KRAP (like, so bad, that it's fake Crap.) I liked the movie cuz I'm a dork and I'm like that, but it was still a terrid movie.

Neuromancer would have the feel more like Blade Runner in terms of grittiness and connection to a dark underworld, bathed in neon and LED light-glow... It also has a distinct Asian edge, also found in Blade Runner. However, it would avoid the "cop-story" cliche found in B.R., as it's a street story, through and through. The only comparison I would give from the Matrix, is that Molly is really close to Carrie-Ann-Moss' Trinity status in terms of hawt-high-flyin-action-chicka-ness (of COURSE that's a word, silly!). But that whole last quarter of the book, where Case is flipping back and forth from Molly's POV and back to his job, would be some very, very cool filmage, IMHO.

Anyway, I've got a LOT of strong feelings about a Neuromancer flick, so if you want the hardcore Gibson/Neuromancer fan advice, feel free to drop me a PM, if you decide to go that route...

Otherwise, I think it's high time for a thriller that doesn't spell it out for you. (How many times have you watched a thriller that drops you so many hints, that halfway into the movie, you're just watching to see if your hunch is correct? That sucks.)

You could do an "Alice" treatment similar to this:
The Guru of News:A Cyberpunk Parody

Of course, budget (and license) might make it difficult.
