CubeFest, London, September 10th

OK. Michael Smith replied to an earlier email of mine requesting his attendance thusly:
Quote:
Hey Oliver

ARGfest in the US was a huge amount of fun and I think a European event is a great idea.

If Perplex City was a key element of the event then Mind Candy would certainly be keen to help drum up publicity within our existing player base and also the wider media.

We could also potentially help with some of the costs involved in putting the event on.

Only problem with late August is that a lot of people might be away on holiday then. Have you thought about early/mid September?? I'm personally out of the country from the 18th until about the 30th so would be really disappointed if I missed it.

Looking forward to meeting you

Michael
As a result, the fest will be shifted to a September Weekend. Which?

[EDIT: poll question to include month. yanka.]
(edited topic - it said poll twice. and caps scare me! GuyP)

Good work, Oliver!

All of these are practical for me. The last weekend is kind of an interesting one because I'm moving into my halls (in London) that weekend, so that would make for a slightly manic experience Smile In fact, I think a lot of uni-people (especially freshers like me) tend to move in late September, so one of the earlier dates might be preferable.

Anyway, a September meet would give us a little more time to sort out some cool stuff to see and do and everyone gets a little more advance notice too. Awesomemundo.

Well I'm happy with either of the first two, but the sooner I know the better... I'm travelling through August and if the meet-up is early September I will tack it onto the end of the trip

I also wonder... MS talks about "the costs involved with running the event" -- are we thinking about extending this beyond simply meeting up for drinks and cards? ...We could probably still keep it to one small session and just get a location where MC can present something... But I'm not volunteering so I'll leave this for locals to discuss Wink

Me and my brother and my friend will hopefully be able to make any date.

He started the original meet up, it flopped. I took over. He feels bad.

that would be great if I could get down there. Can't really book anything in just yet but theoretically I'd like to be able to go.

I emailed Michael Smith in reply, asked for suggestions, assistance etc. Don't want to give too much away, but it should surprise a lot of you.

I prefer "gracefully bowed out at an appropriate moment" to "flopped", myself. No hard feelings, Jay, it was a great idea, now becoming reality.

Good grief, Google tells me there's a bar in Clapham called The Puzzle. I totally hope that's where the fabled MC brainstorming meetings happen, it would be too good. And I don't care if the glasses are dirty! (Incidentally these are part of a chain, this one looks nicest... Giant Jenga! Meeting point?)

So, non-controversially, are we trying to find a nice, U18-friendly, Central London venue? Just trying to imagine how things might take shape here, but how about somewhere to meet up hang out for a while at the beginning, then something else a bit more 'novel' in the early-evening. We might be able to sort out the party animal late night festivities at the time. I'm not convinced we need to actually hire a venue out, although maybe the saying is right: "Hire It, And They Will Come." And if there's help with costs, then it's all gravy.

Thinking about what Michael was saying, I was thinking it might be cool to try and get some non-UF cubists along (they exist, right?) somehow - give Playlounge some flyers to put next to the PC PoS, etcetera... maybe a mention on the website nearer the time, should it become an official event? And like I say, I thought it would be cool if we "did something" (drinking doesn't count) later on... publicitystuntflashmobpuzzlegamecreativething? Scarlett needs something to blog about, after all!

Anyway, just to let you guys know that I'm happy to help - but alas I don't live in London (for another two months...) so if a couple of people based in the capital could pipe up too, that'd be cool. Very Happy

I'm asking about getting IG refrences for just that, if someone could design an advert and send it in to the Sentinel, it might win the competition. If someone else is interested in organising the event (and has a knowledge of html to set up a site devoted to it) PM me. NO knowledge of London is required. As I said, I'm trying to keep the event as as much of a surprise as possible. I hope that you will all enjoy CubeFest as much as I am enjoying orgainising it.

*Edit, added info.

I'm submitting the dates on Friday to Michael, so the poll will be counted on Friday morning when I send my email to him.
