He gave us the cipher and it only took a few minutes for all of us working on the IRC channel to crack it Smile The deciphered text is (spaces added by me):

For those of you wondering, the method of the solve went like this:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
After a quick look at the frequency of letters, I decided to look at it being a Vigenere. On a hunch, I used "alpha" as the keyword (being the first letter of the Greek alphabet). I got a little bit of English out of the cipher text as a result. Using "alphabeta" I got a bit more. Relayed this information to the people in chat, and the idea that the entire Greek alphabet being the keyword came up very quickly. So the keyword for the Vigenere is:

alphabetagammadeltaepsilonzetaetathetaiotakappalambdamunuxiomicronpirhosigmatauupsilonphichipsiomega

New journal entry is up. Either she didn't understand that we found the answer, or our answer isn't the answer. Anyways, go check it out. Smile

We may not be the only community playing this game, either. Smile

Well, we've solved one piece. But on the new journal entry, there is the cover of the book, and one page.
The top of the page has the text we've already translated.

The bottom I don't think anyone has tackled.

Here is my first attempt. Please feel free to correct:
YIIPHVJZMBWNNDPQRBJETMGYQFEOCTXOLCVAAJIVIBBNJBEYVJGMVGSUJEPU

All the letters of the alphabet except K.
http://www.greatestjournal.com/users/thealchemists/1464.html#cutid2

Also, it's written in a spiral, in rectangles that are often used for The Golden Ratio (which has PHI as it's symbol)
http://images.google.com/images?q=%20phi

ps: the doodles on the page could be a rudimentary phi.

I do have to say that the pictures are pretty nifty. Maybe there is hope for this one.

Yeah, that book looks really cool. Not entirely sure that page is actually printed, or a nice piece of P-shop work, but in any case, it looks really lovely, that's for sure! Very Happy

I counted how many symbols were in the piles on the bottom, left to right:

31, 11, 4, 2...
I wasn't sure what to do for the right most pile, it's either 1 or 14. The total number of symbols on the page is 62.

I checked that sequence (with 1 at the start) at the Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences, but the results look too complicated and/or irrelevant. Feel free to check for yourself, there are several hits on this sequence, mostly obscure.

The symbols on the page were in chat found to represent "stone" (Wikipedia) which means we are back at the story about the endless flow of stones.

Next thing would be if anyone notices the symbol on the book cover?

If you look at it as 14, then 11 + 4 + 2 + 14 = 31

I'm pretty much stuck there though. You can get an interesting ROT if you take the 11th, 4th, 2nd and 14th letters of the alphabet - but it didnt work as a Vigenere codeword at least.

Well to me it looks like photoshop work, as the image is far too perfect to be scanned, unless the guy is using a 6000+dpi industrial scanner.

New page posted to the journal. Strifey figured out the stuff running at the top and bottom of the page, and posted the reply.
