Here's the actual smelting image http://www.minerals.org.au/envirosmart/case_studies/wa/waste
EDIT: and just in case there was any doubt, it says they're smelting iron, which really confirms the elemental table theory.

So what results if you put the liked numbers together? If the two elements corrisponding to 104 were combined what would the result be? Likewise what would the result for the combination of both elements listed for 78? I suck at Chemistry BTW.

Why is the quarter moon drawn in? It's not like they couldn't find a picture of the moon. Why isn't it associated with a number? The question asked of Catherwood "red or blue", I'm wondering if others will receive this with the moon drawn in blue.

Do you mean, combine chemically? Or combine atomically? It gets a little complex - like 78, being Platinum, is a transition metal. It doesn't combine chemically together with other platinum atoms to form specific diatomic molecules - but a bunch of platinum atoms can come together to form a continuous substance. Transition metals do this... hence the similar physical properties between gold, iron, copper, and other "traditional" metals.
And if you threw two platinum nuclei together in a particle accelerator, I'd have no idea as to what you'd get.
Some elements are too unstable, and decay too quickly, to have any known chemical properties. The properties can be guess using the periodic table.
In other words, simply combining the two is not so easy as it seems in chemistry .

Thank you. I was about to claw my eyes out.
Alright, alright, alright. I'm an idiot.

The moon in this picture is red, but that theory only makes sense with another question...What did you answer when asked 'Blue or red'?

Don't be too hard on yourself . Technically, potassium chloride is a salt , under the strict chemical definition of the word. It's just not table or edible salt - which is mostly sodium chloride, but may include other salts.
So, really, you shouldn't cut yourself short .

I received a letter in the mail too. It was addressed to "Varin". There was a hole cut out of the envelope like all the others and there was an a and g marked out in red on the address.

So that makes three letters recieved so far. ThaJinx said his had an "a" crossed out on his address. Talusren, did you have any letters crossed out on your address?

The crescent moon is also the alchemic symbol for silver (Ag).
It's interesting that Varin's red letters are ag.
Why does this puzzle seem so familiar? Was this, or something like this, on Riddle Planet?

Rock. I thought it was deliberate at first, but when talusren said there wasn't one on his, I began to wonder. Groovy. Wonder who else is getting letters today...

from here :
Silver is one of the seven metals of alchemy (gold, silver, mercury, copper, lead, iron & tin). The symbol for silver is also associated wth the moon in astrology.
And here are more symbols, some of which we have.
And here is just about the coolest periodic table of elephants I've ever seen.
I still have no idea how to interpret this...

No. Mine still lies uncompleted. Too complex for mere mortals. I observe you like ants from high above on Mt Olympus. Quake in fear. What were we talking about again?

Hi everyone!
Well going along with the "Periodic Table of Elements Theory", I was trying to better figure out the element or compound that each one represented. I started with the upper-left 'Hindenberg Blimp' and easily ascertained that it probably represents Hydrogen (H). In the picture it's sort of burning, and when you burn Hydrogen, you primarily produce Water (H2O)...which of course is what I feel the picture below it represents...sadly that's as far as that goes *haha* I can't really figure out the other pictures near it yet.
I was able to find a close up shot of the Bobby Hat Badge (picture 94) http://wika.webtechplanet.com/bobby/birmingham_city_new.jpg
It only looks like that if it's enamled...otherwise the shape is different. (pay no attention to the city name though...they all are the same shape)
