Actually, we have our own thread about cyclotouriste here , which is considerably more work-safe than the original.
Seeing, however, as there has been neither paranoia nor ridiculous amounts of profanity, I'm not actually seeing a similarity.

Revolutionary Idea I've got this great idea. Please, hear me out before making any judgements. When threads come up where you think a PM is being particularly unprofessional or not holding up to your standards, you do the following.
Please keep in mind that since I have a computer science / engineering background, I sometimes like to express things as an algorithm or in pseudo-code.
Code:
self.stop();
while (self.completelyPissedOff())
self.deepBreaths();
self.continueWithLife()
Now the one flaw with this, is that the while loop could infact be infinite. If that's a possibility, you may need to add a timer. Maybe I'll do this as some type of try/catch exception block too.
Code:
self.stop();
self.startTimer(1hr);
try {
while (self.completelyPissedOff())
self.deepBreaths();
}
catch (TimerError err)
{
if (globals.autoCommit == true)
self.commitToCMH();
else
self.leaveCommunityForSakeOfHealth();
}
self.continueWithLife();
I can understand flaming in religious and political discussions. It doesn't make it right, but, I can understand it. People's tempers flare, they get emotional, ... I've never understood how someone can hold the quality of a game so high, that they're willing to actually yell and bitch at someone for not holding up to their standard. Has this turned from a gaming genre into a way of life? If so, all I can say is wow. Kerrrazy.

As usual, it's not about making it a "way of life."
It's about the fact that people who can't be bothered to spellcheck are probably the same people that can't be bothered to put enough thought into their game design so that it doesn't implode unnecessarily. (And again, I'm aware that games sometimes implode despite the PMs' best efforts, but the recent number of implosions, IMANSHO, is far higher than it could have been.)
And who's yelling?
/me cocks head and listens for a bit.
<raises eyebrow>

I'd have to agree with the spelling and grammar thing. Some games I've had a chance to look at turned me off because of these issues.
Some of the really common ones:
*Random use of apostrophes. Every word that end's in s get's an apostrophe, apparently.
*Their, there and they're all mean different things.
*Likewise to, too and two.
*And pair, pare and pear.
*Get's is not a word. Not on this planet, at least.
And no, spell check is not really the answer. It will still let you use an incorrect word form. How about, oh, a Manual of Style, a good old-fashioned dictionary, a thesaurus?

If I may,
The better you spell the more respect you'll get from your peers.
Respect = Good
Without that respect people probably aren't going to be interested when someone with 2 posts asks for help, especially with something so time and energy demanding like an ARG.
Over all, if you don't care about spelling people aren't really going to care about your project.

For some reason I found that really, really funny.

This thread is really useful, though. It teaches you how not to recruit. Just as this thread tells you how not to launch one.

Not to be a complete bastard, but everyone else is completely right. You've nailed your own coffin shut, and while you may believe you are serious about your endeavor, you are not. And you have proven this through your posts and through your own acts.
Sorry chief. You know what they say about first impressions.

Please understand that by going overboard on people who have only pointed out where your manners are lacking (polite manners can be a good thing) just because you have had a bad day - this does not endear you to anyone - not to people who could be potentially working with you under stressful conditions (and yes there are moments when creating an ARG is stressful) who will get your bad attitude when they are trying to be helpful, not potential players - who will get your bad attitude when they complain about mistakes in your puzzles or lack of organization...
Not to mention - yes, I am going to say this again - On the UF board, most of us (meaning people who would both help run your game and players of your game) read every single forum here at least once a day- sometimes more - therefore redundant multiple posting is NOT necessary, wastes our time when we double check just to be certain it is a redundant post - wastes your time in writing the redundant post (even a cut and paste has to make a few keystrokes to post the message) and generally makes the forum administrator upset that you wasted that much additional space on HIS server.
Trust me on this - you do not want an Administrator upset with you - it gives you a bad rep with anyone who might have server space to lend you for your websites - if you eat too much resources unnecessarily then you get yourself backed into a very bad corner should you need help.

Have you bothered to check out the thread where people interested in being a behind the scenes person have posted their interests and skills? It is called the PM recruitment area and was put there for this very reason - mainly to help hide YOUR curtain so people don't hear about your game prematurely.
By the way, there is a google toolbar that has a spell check feature (mainly IE) and Aspell (GNU spellchecker - for opera etc.) Either of which can help clean up the little spelling errors that we all have.
A very useful tool indeed.
*edit* things get spelled correctly but nothing with double check that I have used the correct word to begin with. *sigh*
