[INFO] pop-up on perplexcityacademy vistor page I haven't seen this mentioned. I'm sure it's not new.
There is a pop up link on the bottom of
http://www.perplexcityacademy.com/visitors.html# page;
View forthcoming public events
It reads....
Quote:
Forthcoming public events include:
Department of Natural Sciences
Dr Sithembile Oshosowe will speak on new discoveries in protein biochemistry.
The opening of the flower mazes
The expert Academy gardeners spend a great deal of the cold winter months planning each year's flower mazes. The bulbs and seeds are carefully chosen to create slowly shifting maze designs in the huge flowerbeds on the Great Lawn. Those who enjoy investigating these techniques may also enjoy visiting the similar plantings at Mazy Wave Court.
Vasquez Observatory
After the Academy's recent discovery of a new galaxy, Dr Saima Sher will give an illustrated lecture on the ways that new technology is enhancing our astronomical knowledge.
Department of Natural Sciences
Developing the city, preserving the environment: a colloquium Members of the Academy's environmental sciences group will be in discussion with representatives from the city council and environmental pressure groups.
Department of languages
As part of an ongoing series, poet Agueda Mabus will challenge her audience to solve a new set of linguistic puzzles and challenges. Mabus is famed for her overlapping puzzle techniques in which the solution to one problem becomes part of the next, so a fascinating evening is promised.
vDepartment of Social Sciences
Religions of ancient Perplex City: Dr Vaccaro Cyriak will talk on the legacy of primitive religion in the city, and its impact on modern-day worship.
Academy Museum
Tom Pottard, artist in residence, will talk about the range of self-propelling sculptures he has made as a response to the clockwork figures in the Museum. Refreshments will be served after the lecture.
Library
Cryptological studies: defence applications. Dr Cho Yuan will speak on the theoretical uses of cryptology in a military context. There will be a demonstration of secure transmissions; keys must be switched off.
Academy Museum
The snake in textile design. Hayden Ottolengi will give an illustrated lecture on textile design from around the world, tracing the mythological and social implications of the repeated snake motif in many different cultures.
Carrick Room
On the eve of the Cubist celebration of midsummer, theatre director, writer and actor Abaddon Rule will read from his play Reconstruction. The reading will be followed by refreshments on Adamek Green. Places must be reserved in advance as space is strictly limited.
Great Lawn
The traditional Academy midsummer celebration will take place on the Great Lawn; live music will be played, and the annual cube hunt will take place. Many believe that it was Robart Kermeen himself who started the ritual of hiding brightly coloured cube replicas around the Academy and inviting local schoolchildren into the Academy to find them. Others believe that the custom predates Kermeen and, strangely, may even predate the discovery of the cube itself. Whatever its true origins, the cube hunt has been a favourite event of the Academy's year. The cube hunt was cancelled in 267 due to the sombre mood surrounding the disappearance of the actual Cube, but now that the "real" Cube hunt is successfully under way the Academy has bowed to public pressure to reinstate this event.
I did a search here and on the wiki for some of the charaters, but didn't find anything except the mention on the v in front of 'Department of Social Sciences'. I considered adding some of the characters mentioned to the wiki, but I fear I'll mess it up.

science I find the fuss the Perplexians have made about finding a new Galaxy rather perplexing.
Every time WE point a large telescope at the sky we discover hundreds or possibly thousands of unknown galaxies.
They may be good at puzzles and technology but seem a little lacking in big science.

Pretty sure this isn't new, so I wouldn't read too much into the references to primitive religion etc. I suspect this is, in fact, a scholar discoursing on practices that may even have preceded the coming of the Cube - cf. Tronten ware etc. (or whatever it's called - the implication that they may have been a precursor civilization to the Perplexians...)

Maybe by "discovered" they don't mean "seen through a telescope". Maybe they actually have explorers out in the cosmos "discovering" ones that they can't see.

Seconded. I definitely remember reading about stuff like the flower mazes and the cube hunt back when the site first went up and I'm pretty sure it was in this pop-up, including that typo with the 'v'. I found it kinda weird that they don't give any dates though.

Whether it's new or not, we should try and get Violet or Scarlett to go along to this- the info may prove useful in the future!

Checked the mirrors, this has indeed been here since the site was launched... Worth re-considering the content now though

Why, of course it has. I actually initiated a discussion about why keys would need switching off for security reasons on the basis of it! Knew I'd read it all somewhere before...

I've been lurking for a while and beleive I'm about ready to jump into the fold. Hey, that search fuction works pretty good!
I will start off by saying html is not my forte and at first beleived this to be a cut/paste error. A couple things stuck out though like this:
Quote:
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/JavaScript">
<!--
<!--
function MM_preloadImages() { //v3.0
Perhaps this is there to draw our attention to this page? Also, if the was a simple cut/past error would you think it would include:
<P><strong> and not just <strong>?

With all this hype around "V" and Viendenburg being a place or a person? Or perhaps both or perhaps the mastermind V has a totally differant name? From what I can tell there still seems to be alot of speculation on this, other then the fact that Scarlett is going to visit a place called Viendenburg or so she thinks.
I just find it a little odd that this Dr's first name is (V)accaro Cyriak and with everything else seems to be pointing to a ancient secret society or religiouse cult.
HAHA, I'm most likely just bored and wish something would happen. Worse case, maybe this guy might have some info.

I'm still gonna wave that off as a cut-n-paste error.
