I swear Wisconsin peeps are made to withstand the cold. They must have some special genetic advantage. Last winter I'd be walking around with full winter gear and would see entire families in shorts and tshirts.

Yuppers.

I was strolling down State Street on my way to a concert one clear and brisk November evening, attired in a short-sleeved black dress, and I passed a bundled-up man who said to me, in a rolling Caribbean accent, "You must have some Northern blood!" while shivering.

Agreed.

If it's 40F in Chi-town, you can start wearing shorts.

Obviously the genetic ice queen mutation didn't cross over the Indiana border. We like to start wearing pants when it gets to be around 70 degrees. Sweaters when it's 60.

We don't start to consider closing schools here until the temperature hits -32º C. Even then, teachers are expected to show up. Last year I went to school in -42º C (with windchill) cold.

I didn't choose this life, it chose me. Razz

temperature

So to convert a negative Centigrade temperature to Fahrenheit do you just do the standard calculation and then put a minus sign in front of the result?

9/5C +32= F

Cause that method is giving me -42 C = -107.6 F

Can that possibly be correct?

-40F = -40C = freezing point of alcohol.

No.

To convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit:
[(9/5)*C]+32 where C is the temperature in Celsius
or
[1.8*C]+32 where C is the temperature in Celsius

So... -30º C = [1.8 X -30] + 32
= -54 + 32
= -22º F

And... -40º C = [1.8 X -40] + 32
= -72 + 32
= -40º F
