if we are gonna work as a team i think it madness that everyone is trying to stir the waters with masses of emails to every address we get -- one person per char would work better (but it wont happen i know)

Agreed Tanner - the only reason I sent that email which is at the bottom of the last page is to appeal to Sylvia and because I have an inkling she can tell us something about the academy that perhaps she doesn't know is of some use.

well spoken, tanner. I was sort of trying to create a bit of a rapport with sylvia. Sometimes it works out nicely to have large amounts of data coming in to a contact. But I dunno man, it seems to me like it would really work best if people tried not to slay others with email.

i agree tanner, but i sent an email anyway. But dont worry... its a good email*

Sylvia,

I know you are confused and alone at the moment, but we only seek to help you, my colleagues and I are here to aid and support you, you said once that you wanted answers about Pietro's death and his coma, you wanted closure. We can give you the peace you seek, but you have to help us in our search for the cube, only then can we find answers to the questions forever on your lips; this is what Pietro would have wanted and the best way to remember the dead and mourn for them is to honour their wishes. We are not ghosts, but we bring back memories, memories of a great man, a man we seek to avenge, we will stand tall with you, you are not alone in this. We only seek to help find the true murderer and Ms Grand is a vessel for that investigation.

Yours faithfully,

- perplexed

Update from Monica

The Advisor wrote:
18.47 14 Sept. Very well. I have received communications from your party that Detective Helena Frye will grant me immunity from prosecution. I accept. However, I need to speak privately with Sylvia Salk first; Pietro trusted her and thus I know she is an ethical and courageous individual. I know that I can trust her with my life. Tell her to meet me at my apartment at 5pm precisely on Friday. It would seem that you know where that is, as you know so many other facts about my life. Tell her to come alone. I am sure I am being watched; we must raise as little suspicion as possible. Even a single visitor to my apartment will draw attention, more than that may prove fatal to us all.

I am putting my life on the line simply communicating with you in this way. I only hope that your promises of security can be trusted.

Hadn't seen anyone else post this yet, so hopefully it's news.

Here's my email to Sylvia...

Quote:
Dear Sylvia,

Monica is willing to accept your proposal but wishes to meet with you privately, first.
She wants you to meet her at her appartment (Room 19, Level 157 of Ascendancy Point) at EXACTLY 5pm this coming Friday.
You are meant to go alone as she is sure that she is being watched and wishes to raise as little suspicion as possible.
If you are concerned about meeting in private, then you can by all means inform Helena of where you will be to ensure your safety in her presence.

Good luck,

This totally reminds me of the Nina/Teri thing from the first series of 24... apart from rather than having a fling with S's husband, Monica contributed to his murder. Which is a bit worse. Still, in Ascendancy Point, I'm sure TA has a nice discreet cleaner who's good with blood stains...

Egg on our faces?

Heh, there would be serious egg on our faces if Syliva turns up at the apartment and the next thing we see is a sentinel article about the brutal murder of someone in ascendency point.

Far from us being witnesses, we'll be implicated! We gave her the name, the address. We told her when to meet, and lulled poor Monica into believing we had secured protection for her.

She goes to the door and then BAM! psycho grieving widow opens a can of whoop-ass on her.

Smile

Dang, you are right about that. Fired off one more email.

Hello Sylvia

You have not been in prior communication with me personally. My name
is Mattias Johansson, citizen of Sweden, Earth. I am part of earth
faction you have been in communication with regarding Monica Grand.

First, please accept my condolences.

However, our time is precious, so I'll get right down to the matter at hand.

I noticed that Dysper had contacted you with time, location and other
details of a rendevous with Monica Grand. That is all well and good -
his advice and information is sound, however, there is one thing that
disturbs me.

As you may know, my faction unlocked the maze puzzle that your husband
left behind, which in turn led us to his conversation logs with The
Advisor/Monica Grand. We have been able to unlock all parts of the
logs, except one, where Pietro left a clue we we're unable to decipher
- more specifically, where you and Pietro met.

Therefore, it would be very good if you could provide us with
information on how you and Pietro met, preferably prior to your
meeting with Monica, as it might contain information that will be
useful to you when meeting with Monica.

Yours sincerely
/Mattias Johansson

Well to know for certain, we just need to find out if Monica's key is a Dell one, or a sleek Apple key. If it's Apple, then she can be trusted. Wink

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhhh!
If you don't know what sex someone is, the correct grammar to use is them/they/their etc. (depending on context).

Sorry for the un-important grumpy post - I'm just a girl Crying or Very sad'ing in a corner right now at all the people who think everyone on a computer is a guy.

[edit: avatar now added - I don't want to see anybody else making the same mistake, y'hear? Razz]

Ah, my apologies for assuming. It was not so much the computer bit (I know a healthy amount of girl geeks, and my three fellow perplex city solvers are female), but that "Dysper" sounded so masculine.

Actually, this is all rather up in the air right now. AskOxford.com has this to say:
Quote:
He, She, or They?

People are increasingly using the plural pronoun they to refer to one person if they do not know whether that person is male or female. Until quite recently, he was generally used to refer to a person of either sex, as in 'Every child needs to know that he is loved', but nowadays many people feel that such a use is sexist.

He or she is possible, but is rather awkward. They is generally accepted in sentences using words such as someone or anyone, e.g. 'Anyone can join if they are a resident'. More people object to they being used after a single noun, as in 'Ask a friend if they can help'.

Interestingly, use of they in this way is not a modern invention: it was first recorded in the 16th century.

So, giving benefit of the doubt, perhaps Dysper's use of "he" is merely the reflexive result of hard-line grammatical training! OTOH, the trend in general (and certainly on the web) is toward the use of "they" in these cases - and for just the reason pointed out here. Namely, no one likes being mistaken for a member of the opposite gender. (Well, there was that girl with the spectacularly large adam's apple... but I digress.)
