Proposed Chat for Dale & Bruce

Passion@collectivedetective has proposed a chat with Dale and Bruce

Quote:
In various letters and chats Bruce and Dale have expressed interest in
getting together to settle things between them. With that in mind, I
made the following proposal to both of them. First will be my initial
letter, then Bruce's reply, and then my reply to him. Still haven't heard
from Dale, but we know he's been busy with the server outage.

Dear Bruce and Dale,

I would like to offer you a way to meet on neutral ground to discuss
your differences. I propose that the two of you meet in a chatroom on a
network that hosts a channel where this investigation is discussed. I
can provide you with information on a program you can use to access it,
such as mIRC, and all of the technical details you need to log onto
the network. One of the reasons I personally prefer IRC is because the
interface is much better than the one we've used for our previous chats
with Bruce. The chatroom can hold many more people and in addition it
can be moderated so that only select people are allowed to speak/type.

I'm sure there would be a great many people that would be interested
in seeing the two of you discuss your differences and hopefully find a
way to regain each others trust and friendship.

If this seems like a workable idea to both of you, I'd be happy to help
put this together. If this isn't workable, perhaps there's another way
that this meeting could be brought about.

Cordially,

Sandra

From Bruce:

Sandra:

I'm more than willing to meet you all live with Dale to get things resolved. Obviously, a time would have to be worked out, and some sort of format, too, that primarily promotes one on one between Dale and myself. I wouldn't want this to turn into a situation where some of the attack dogs among your investigators use this as an opportunity to make a bunch of unsubstantiated charges against me that they put forward as facts. I'm willing to let all voices be heard, but if civility starts to break down, it's doubtful anything useful can be accomplished.

I will warn you in advance, however -- if this is something I'm going to need to load onto my personal computer (and the software doesn't sound like something I already have), please provide as much detail as possible to facilitate my reaching the site successfully, as I am admittedly 'tech- challenged'.

How about it, Dale?

Bruce

My reply to Bruce that I CCed to Dale:

Quote:
Thank you for getting back to me, Bruce. I haven't heard from Dale regarding this, but I know he is busy with issues surrounding some websites and so I don't expect to hearfrom until that issue is resolved.

The way I see this chat working out is that you two would access IRC (Internet Relay Chat) at the appointed time and would join a "channel" where the discussion could take place. The advantage to IRC over something like AIM is the room can be moderated. This means that only the two of you and people who have "Ops" (operator status) would be allowed to type in the channel. Thus there would be no chance of this turning into an ambush or attack on either of you. The others in the channel could only watch and would only participate if they were given "voice" or the channel was un-moderated.

Fortunately, CD has a very good Javachat interface that you can access from a browso there's no need to download a chat client, unless you wanted to. The Javachat will allow you to log into the channel called "#live" which CD has set up for just such events. You don't have to be a member of CD to join this chat, so members of other groups and indepent investigators would have access. Plus, there's no restrictions in the number of people who can access the chat - unlike AOL's Instant Messenger service.

The URL is: http://www.collectivedetective.org/chat/?channel=live

I think this would probably be best for both of you since there's no software to download and install.

Looking forward to being able to chat with both of you.

Sandra
