[UPDATE] perplexcity.com and leaderboard

It seems that they are currently updating the Perplex City main site and with it we have the ability to log in to the main site. We also finally have the leaderboard here. Right now everything is semi-working, as I believe they're still doing the updates. Try not to break the site until they're finished

EDIT: Of course, just after posting this, I get the following email:

Quote:
Dear User of Perplex City Forums,

We have recently upgraded our forum system and introduced a new card
solving system on www.perplexcity.com. Your forum username has been
copied over to our card solving system, so you will be able to use it
to log in there, as well as the forums.

As a security precaution, your password has been reset. Before logging
into the forums or the card solving system, you will need to visit:

http://www.perplexcity.com/account/reset_password.build

in order to have your new password emailed back to you. You can then
change your password to anything you like when you log in to either the
forums or the card solving system on www.perplexcity.com.

Please note your password will always be the same for the forums and
for the card solving system after you have reset it. In other words,
you will only have one password to remember

Yay, I'm in 8th place on the "LeaderBoard" (of course everyone who hasn't entered any cards yet is in 8th for the moment) Smile

Just had to record this moment since it's the highest I'll ever be...

Yep, almost all the image links are presently broken, and so are many style sheets. Things are filling in slowly though.

Hmm, time to get scratching off the silver panels from the cards methinks...

I wonder how they're implementing the solve-card functionality. Will you be able to enter several guesses, or will you just get one chance per card id number? And some of the cards have quite complicated answers...

I was wondering the same thing... Maybe someone who has entered a few cards can let us all know how its done?

Hopefully you don't get just one chance per card... That would make some of the more rare/difficult cards very annoying (like a typo in your answer Smile )

Well I'll enter some cards just as soon as the images load and I can see what I'm doing...!

I also wonder whether they'll only allow access to individual card forums once you've typed in a code for that card...

By the way, my screenname on the site is 'frankieroberto'.

Well, I've just solved my first card. Four points to me!

In the process, I accidentally put in a typo when I first typed the card code, and got the error message "This card is locked - you've tried to solve this card too many times today or you entered an invalid card code." - so I guess that's the answer. Not sure how many chances you get though...

Maybe someone with a stack of "Parallel Lines" or "Milo" extras can intentionally screw up a few times on one? That way, if it locks out that card's serial number for too many guesses, it's not like you have to go far to dig up another copy.

Sounds like it'll only lock you out for a day anyway...

kraed has managed to knock up 276 points already. Kudos!

Cool beans.

I think the clue is "you've tried to solve this card too many times today." A guess a day? Seems reasonable enough.

Does the site look totally borked to anyone else though? As in: no images or CSS? (in Firefox / Windows, anyway) Just checking...[/b]

For the record, you cannot use the same card twice, ie. same card, two card ids. Therefore, there's a cap on how many points you can have.

Also, looks like you have 3 tries per day per card, I just wasted a violet's phone card, (its going up on my wall).

Yup, it looks a tad rubbish at the moment.
