I am trying to follow on both lazylaces and here, so things are a bit confusing, I guess that I will have to wait to get my e-mail to be able to post anything usefull, but thanks for the welcome rowan, and this has been the most fun thing that I have done in 2 months. I am sure when I wake up tomorrow this will all be sorted out, and I will be lost in the sea of following everyone else yet again Sad

Alternate Reality Game (ARG).

Don't know if I'll be joining you guys on this one. I have to read a little bit more about it before I decide.

ARG = Alternate Realty Game (or basically what you're playing right now).

Here are a couple of links to get you up and running (from ARGN):

What is an ARG?
How Do I Get Started?

There is also a Player Tutorial section at the bottom of these boards that has some pointers for new players.

You can also find helpful people to chat with in either #unfiction or #13books on irc.chat-solutons.org (or use the Java chat provided by UF)

How dense am I? Thanks for explaining to a computer-illiterate girl like myself! How long do you think this can go on? This is all confusing, too many webpages to visit, too much to keep straight, but I will continue and go through the looking glass with all the others!

That's the first step...no pun intended.

Welcome to our world, Summer. Glad to have ya. Just don't get too freaked out, this being your first game and all, because sometimes they can get a little freaky, but that's all the thrill Very Happy

It seems that I picked a doozy of a one to start with, since veterans of the game are stumped at all the neverending puzzle. I should have started with something easier!

Someone on lazylaces found that XOR is part of programming code; it means 'false,' I think. i.e., XORkid would be false kid. Which would be really, really witty if it was deliberate, since its clear that Orkid is a part of the game. It would also explain why she goes by Orkid when her name is Orchid.
Are we certain of any books other than 1984 by Orwell?

Hello there. It's an old-style s. Smile

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_s
The long or medial s (ſ) is a form of the minuscule letter s that was formerly used when the s occurred within or at the beginning of the word, for example ſinfulneſs ("sinfulness"). The modern letterform was called the terminal or short s.

edit: subject seems to be a clue to another web page try variations on
loop.html
