Unless we've got some folks here, who haven't availed us of their indepth knowledge of what kind of experience lies before us on this quest, I'd say "elitist" is way off the mark, and get the feeling that we're all initiates in this befuddled subgroup of the Galactiic Brain trust. Sometimes we may post like we're some kind of expert, but that's more out of the role playing aspect of it all and our ability to lean heavily on the anonymity afforded us in this medium.
To put a bow on it.... Just go with the flow, and have fun while learning. I know I am.
If this is going where it appears to be, I gotta say, the idea of a thirteen month calendar sounds good (Especially that annual "Day out of Time". Sounds like a party to me.)
If I were a computer, I might have a very different opinion, though.
And, as to it happening by 2013... Anybody in the US remember the mandatory move to the metric system, 30+ years back?
Barring somebody becoming "King of the World", we'll be stuck with our politically influenced calendar for quite some time.
And, Incog... All the Red Herrings we've encountered, thus far give you every right to miss a post or two.

Miggy--That is kinda like saying that only the players on the field get the experience. Not the coaches, those on the bench, the fans, the team mascot, the team docs, etc., etc. etc..

Not only do I disagree....I bet all of the above would as well.

Put simply....not everyone gets to be the quarterback. But without all of the others involved the quarterback would be nothing.

Just my (not quite so) humble opinion. Wink

---keep in mind that I am not a scribe...yet I have had a blast with this thus far---

Just because there are 13 scribes doesn't mean you don't get to play.

If Shane is telling the truth, which I am inclined to believe he is, he is more involved than most and is not a scribe. Very Happy

If it makes you feel any better Angel, this game often gives me a pounding headache from reading things I don't truly understand.

Edit: The whole Tortuga and Pacal Voltan thing. I must admit I'm very ignorant at world religions. Must be my Catholic upbringing. Twisted Evil

This.. thing (I kind of hesitate to call it a game) is not about quarterbacks. That was a bit of a bad analogy, I think.

Think of it more as an interactive book. A choose-your-own-adventure, if you ever read those. Everyone gets out what they put in - if you try to understand, it doesn't matter if you comprehend on the same level as the person to your left or right, you'll still get some good from it.

The scribes, as I currently see it, are sort of benchmarks. They're no more special than anyone else involved in this - they're just being used, or will be used, to facilitate Islingtons "grand plan."

I think things are going to get very interesting soon enough. Have some faith and stick with it - you may be pleasantly surprised.

Time for a cigarette, now. That was entirely too optimistic for me.

We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true.

I couldn't have said it better myself kyle.

Oh and Shylilembrace, I just emailed Islington as well. Since I have never recieved an e-mail from him, and only a one line one from Toby, I decided it was time to put my neck out and look down the rabbit hole myself.

I am also very curious why I was made a scribe since I have done nothing as notable as Incog Neato, Duck13, Toby, Orkid, Mountain Girl, Graeme or anyone else. I do want the title, and accept it's responsabilities in this "game," the eternal 2 year-old's question of "why?" just keeps popping into my brain.

Ok, all of this "I'm not getting the full experience" thing is off of our task. I'm sorry you've not been able to feel useful, but I'm sure we could benefit from knowledge you would bring to the table. Don't just be a "lurker", join in the quest! We would love to have you.

Back on task.....I'm quite intrigued by the link Pink Flamingo provided to the Tortuga Tones. http://forums.tortuga.com/viewtopic.php?t=149
What do we know?

1. This was a link provide by Islington himself.
2. We have been given the XORANDOR clue by Islington (Rowan's Scribe Page).

It seems more logical, to me at least, these clues are related given these facts.

So, if this is true would this mean XORANDOR=564?

Jack:

I don't think it's about doing something "notable," per se. I'm not sure there's any rhyme or reason at all behind it, but I would venture a guess that Islington culled the people he thought had the fortitude and determination to see his plans through to the end. Whatever they might be.

But don't sell yourself short on my account - maybe you did something really awesome that rocked Islington's world. The world may never know. But I think we will, eventually. When we're meant to.

Okay, A few things:

1) If Shane is getting personnal messages like that is is likely from someone who lives near you and who you know to some degree. Perhaps it is just a fruad (either from shane or from the person who left the notes) I'm inclined to believe someone is tricking you shane but "Be cautious but trust" does come into play. Perhaps it is a test of our faith, perhaps of our coutiousness. On the other hand, this Shane could be Islington himself, or someone we dont know yet, testing us or tempting us.

2)XOR AND OR could mean the following (according to the chart):
5 6 4
G A F
Blue Pink Green

Not sure what any of those mean. But notice there are 13 tones...as well as 'NOR', silence...

3)Perhaps the list of people in islingtons book are people he's met, the people he was with when the books were lost, etc. Or perhaps he himself is a writter? Book 0 is his book...

EDIT: Maybe we should follow up on the scribe clues (ie. mcgyver's fax, etc.)
