I don't care if it is a joke. That was TOTALLY uncalled for. Trouting is one thing. Calling anyone names is another.

ohhhhh damn Trout MF'er
originalpost

I beg your pardon?!

1) What makes you think that sort of name-calling is, by even the remotest stretch of the imagination, appropriate? There is simply no reason to name-call. Especially when it's an obscenity. Unbelievable. Rolling Eyes

2) The original post didn't have half the information that Rowan's did. Which is likely why she didn't find in while searching, and why her post is still useful.

3) Trout is supposed to be a term of respect.

Dan Fabulich wrote:
When I say "trout" to you, I don't simply mean the fish, I mean to say to you: "Listen. I respect you. It's great that you're here and posting and that we're working together for a common goal. Nonetheless, I have some polite criticisms."

We don't want people to feel flamed when we trout them. That's the whole point of having the term in the first place.

And combining it with an obscene insult doesn't exactly make it sound like a term of respect, does it?

Joke or not, the mildest way I can put this, without using terms like "immature," "harmful," or "mean," is to say that your "joke" was in extraordinarily poor taste.

Oh, and not funny.

Econometrica

This econometrica thing appears to be some kind of economic journal or something. That's a guess, but Nash had several of his major works published in issues of it. See http://cepa.newschool.edu/het/profiles/nash.htm and scroll down to major works.

Interesting to note is that Nash was very into games; of course, the mathematical basis of games, but still, its funny that he's featured in an arg and he worked in games too. Nice touch.
Also, Nash was schizophrenic, and so was out of touch with reality; possibly a reference to the 'blinking' of Islington?[/i]

Duckie...
I sent you a fax of the map that was the answer to my puzzle.
I kinda don't want to mention it here as it was it was a standing puzzle on Greame's board and I don't want to be guilty of spoiling their fun.

Maybe it's our map key, though.

which scribe's page did you get the "mission accomplished" text on?
i've gotten the mission accomplished screen on macgyver's and another page i don't remember which. I figured it had already been mentioned and didn't bother to post it like adding 1984 to the end of the url to get to another page.

Sorry about the long pause in my posts, I had to do stuff around the house, as bad as I hated to. Wink

Now, to transcribing the xandto zip similar cap on my scribe page.
Note: anything in () is my assumption attempting to complete a partial word or letter. ? is unknown that comes before what is seen. And - is unknown that comes after what is seen.

Anybody who sees something I don't, feel free to correct.
ETA: Congrats on the solve Rogi!

A three pointed celt refers to the symbol of The Isle Of Man...It's called a Panceltic Flag.

The Panceltic Flag site takes me to The Origin of the Word Triskelion

The Sicilian version of this is THE MEDUSA......

Triscal, are you right....or left?

Mountain Girl-- did he say that to you in an email? Or on Lazylaces?
....because If he said it on laces, there's a pretty good chance it was just someone pretending to be him... just a thought.

Good Point, but it's very coincidental.

Mountain Girl- there is a pic of the medusa on one of his pages... of course, I can't find which page now. Did you see my post on the lazylaces board about this? The Medusa/Perseus legend is referenced in a lot of literature, unfortunately for us.
I've searched, and found absolutely no connection between Yale and John Nash, aside from the fact that psychiatrists at Yale did research on schizophrenia. Nash doesn't even appear to have ever visited Yale.
There was something else that I thought of, but now I've forgotten it. Curses.

Withe

Isn't the text on your page an excerpt from

this page which I accessed by clicking the x

Also on the source of the rowan1 page:

is this title;
OOGINOOGINOOGINOOGIN

as well as the lengthy binary which Rowan (the same one? it seems likely) translated above as leading to the sept13.txt. I remember seeing that sept13 text from another page earlier today but I don't remember what linked to it.

I wonder, we were just given the name Nash, no first name, correct? . The first two thoughts that came to my head were Ogden Nash, the poet, and then our own UF's Nash Carey.

ETA: Yep Rose, that's it. I have been calling it the "xandto zip similar cap", but for the life of me couldn't bring that page back up in my history to compare it with the excerpt on my page. Great eye. Very Happy
