Then again, this is the first and only site that we've found that was not registered with Go Daddy.

We've found a few sites not registered with Go Daddy (not necessarily up and running), http://www.testbs.com for example. We just haven't found any that are definitely in-game.

*bracing for fishies*

Okay, I've been going nuts over Monica's promise that we'd find key words in London that would lead us to a website. So I've been reading everyone's tries and typing in my own random guesses as well. Nothing, nothing, nothing. Confused

But just now, as I was staring at the poster for the millionth time, I kept being bothered by that asterisk by Supernovae, and the fact that Supernovae isn't mentioned on the Receda Approach website. Since it says it's their upcoming SINGLE, I wondered if it would make a difference to try www.supernova.com as a singular noun. And -- weird -- it leads to what looks like a band networking page. And I think it's Canada-based.

A quick search for Receda Approach on the page turned up nothing, but I thought it was an interesting coincidence! Shocked

i just found the most hilarious coincidence, it has to be a red herring, http://www.whitestar.com/ has a picture that looks a lot like the symbol, but slightly changed, it has to be deliberate Smile Ether that or its jus a funny coincidence...

Life cycle

The GMC is the first song, Supernovae is the last mentioned.

GMC is the birthplace of a star, and a supernova is the death of one. So, some kind of cosmic timeline?

It could just be that one of the band members is an astronomy nut? Wink

Email someone?

Does anyone think it's worth emailing someone about the Receda Approach poster to see if those terms mean anything to them that it wouldn't to us, seeing as the band are "inspired by Perplex City"?

Kurt seems pretty into music, or Scarlett or Violet?

Well, it does say they're landing on Earth... are they coming from Perplex City? Maybe we could just throw an email to Kurt asking if he's ever heard of The Receda Approach. Question

I think we might be taking that part of it too literally. When they say "landing on earth soon" I don't think they really mean they are coming from Perplex City. It's like those movie trailers where they say something like, "The invasion begins march 2005".

EDIT: Oh, and one more thing. Have we discussed why some of the words in the list of cinimas are bolded? I can't find a mention of this in this topic, and I don't remember seeing that the first time I looked at the site.

Yes, it has been discussed, but I'm not going to trout you 'cause I can't for the life of me find where. Smile

The emboldened words are the types of cinema, the non-bold words are town/city names.

example: paramount toronto = (Famous Players) Paramount Cinema in Toronto

Maybe the logo is a simplified representation of a tesseract (or hypercube)
See: http://www.angelfire.com/ultra/nerdsandgeeks/index.Dimensions.html.
It was the "landing on earth" that got me thinking in this direction. That they could be using a tesseract for transportation (the cube/themselves) to earth.

Quote:
The tesseract is mentioned in the children's fantasy novel A Wrinkle In Time, by Madeleine L'Engle, as a way of introducing the concept of higher dimensions, but the treatment is extremely vague. In that book she uses the tesseract as a portal, a doorway which you can pass through and emerge far away from the starting point, as if the two distant points were brought together at one intersection (at the tesseract doorway) by the folding of space, enabling near-instantaneous transportation.
.

Interestingly there is also a connection to Riemann (card #238) and tesseracts
Quote:
Riemann: On June 10, 1854 a new way of looking at geometry was put forward in a famous lecture by the mathematician Bernhard Riemann. He generalized Euclidean geometry to a non-Euclidean geometry allowing for curved surfaces and any number of higher dimensions.

Riemann's ideas started many people thinking about higher dimensions. People found that the ramifications of the existence of higher dimensions were astounding. If you could manipulate the fourth or higher dimensions you would have god-like powers.

http://scholar.uwinnipeg.ca/courses/38/4500.6-001/Cosmology/dimensionality.htm

I know tesseracts and hypercubes have been mentioned before but maybe its worth another look?

I'm not sure if anyone on here has Seen the show andromeda but they seem to use the "hyper-cube / tesserat (excuse spell)" as a transport system quite often beyond season 8.

It's semi humorous though the way they use it.

its gonna really upset me if all this has nothing to do with astronomy but is film stars, rock stars (superstars), (famous players) etc

BTW Kate Winslet was a star in Titanic --- Very Happy Very Happy
